NCAA Football 2024 (national discussion)

The article about Harris is incredible. No insurance, expired registration, and it was raining. I'm so glad they charged him with not wearing his seatbelt. That charge will stick!

Sorry to be Debbie Downer on a football thread but this is a pet issue for me - UGA football players have an epidemic or traffic violations and here is another - driving 106. I used to be supportive of their team (I briefly lived in ATL and my bosses were all huge UGA fans so got me into it) but I no longer can support this program - it is really horrible. And they don't see to really care.

This is similar to what happened to Florida (players out of control) under Urban and I think contributed to the team falling off

I was hopeful Wisconsin would give Alabama a game but this QB is very unimpressive. I don’t think you can beat Bama by running the whole game. Maybe the defense can keep it close.

That was the backup QB. Starter Tyler Van Dyke was knocked out with what looks like a serious knee injury on the Badgers first possession. Never had a chance after that. That being said, Alabama looked excellent.

Bigtime upset alert right now. #1 may be going down. While it's only 3-0 Kentucky over Georgia midway through the 2nd quarter, the game is unfolding perfectly for the Wildcats. Four points indicating a possible upset:

1) UK's QB (a former Bulldog) is playing very well thus far. Seems like he's relishing playing his former team.

2) UGA, especially on offense, is anemic. They've only converted one third down thus far.

3) Injuries coming into the game, and in-game, are hurting the Bulldogs.

4) The intangibles are all breaking to UK. Beside the injuries, officials have made some questionably favorable calls for the Wildcats. On top of that, the UK players seem jacked and are playing quite well. Their FG kicker hit a career long to give them the early lead.

P.S. And literally as I hit "post" Georgia gets a huge hit on the UK QB resulting in a fumble and recovery by the Bulldogs. Huge, huge turnover.

UK limits the damage on the turnover and holds UGA to a FG. 3-3 late in the 2nd quarter. But make no mistake, the Wildcats are outplaying the Bulldogs up to this point.

I’m watching as well and UK better start securing the ball better - it’s Georgia’s best offense so far…
Agreed. But UK is running through Georgia's tacking over and over. These guys have come to play tonight. I think the Bulldogs are primed for an upset.

On top of everything else that is breaking UK's way, they dominated time of possession as well in the first half.

I'm just stunned at how well UK is playing defense tonight. Their safeties (#11 and #14) have been sensational all night long. Reading and tackling perfectly.

One big thing I've noticed as well: Yards after contact. Kentucky has been killing that one on offense throughout. Especially their RBs. They pick up 3+ yards after just about every initial hit by the Georgia defense. On the other hand, they are also limiting the Bulldogs' offense to every few yards after initial contact.

Michigan pulled one out at home vs USC today but frankly neither team looked all that great. USC’s QB is pretty accurate but he’s not athletic and doesn’t break the pocket to either run or create time for his receivers to get open. And their o-line was largely dominated by Michigan’s pass rush.

Michigan’s first time starter Alex Orji really couldn’t do anything - I think he passed for like 22 yards all day. That won’t work long term. But they do have a beast of a running back named Mullings who seems to have eclipsed Donovan Edwards.

Michigan scored 27 points and won the game without a single sustained drive. 3 long runs (2 for touchdowns) and a pick 6 and that was it. Strange game but Michigan found a way to win it. But neither of these teams was very impressive today.

Wow. I don’t know if this is something different, but it is certainly a sign of the transactional nature that this game has become. Quid pro quo or I walk. The quarterback of the undefeated UNLV football team has said he’s not playing any more football games and has apparently left the team. The reason? certain representations that were made to him have not been fulfilled and it is evident they will not be fulfilled. So he’s walking. If the UNLV coaches pull the old bait and switch, then they deserve to be abandoned from a strictly contractual perspective. Still what a game we have here, fellas.

ETA: he’s going to use his red shirt and sit out the rest of the season. Seems to also redefine what red shirt actually means. Can you use a redshirt as a remedy to what is tantamount to a contract dispute?
