According to press reports, the players on the Dartmouth men's basketball team have chosen to cease their attempts to unionize.

I wonder how much they were paid to drop it. Every revenue sport athlete not in the Ivy League could tell you that it was a terrible idea. ALL the leverage is currently with the players. Why screw that up? Sooner or later, the balance will change or enough people will get screwed, and then unions will make sense. Until then, the players are sitting fat and happy.

That's pretty spot on the NCAA tournament record for 16/1. 154-2 is the current win-loss (98.7%).

The basketball analogy is no good, though, because your standard issue 16 seed isn't even close to the 16th best team in the country, they would be more likely to be 60th, AT BEST.

The analogy would be a 1-seed losing to a 4-seed or a 5-seed.

I’m up to my mid 70’s- my youth was exalted by Murray and Bubas. B-ball has exceeded expectations, but football has had only the Spurrier blip, Cut’s hot streak in the middle of the last decade, and the present. Nina, Manny, and a 28-11 record despite coaching changes the last 3 years has given me hope that Duke can again be an 800 pound gorilla in both revenue sports. Therefore, with the addition of the 12 team playoff, why not the Blue Devils in the field? Our recent success has put us on the map, and our long reputation as a doormat is on the wane. We have been competitive in the big spotlight. I can’t imagine a better coda to my lifelong Duke sports love than to see the football team in the games everybody watches, first as a Cinderella and then as a contender! We’ve had some glimpses of that reality, and the epitome of sports is to dream. Fight Blue Devils, Fight!!!
