Duke Alums on the 2024 PGA and LPGA Tours

Streelman opened with a birdie on #10 before going double bogey, double bogey, bogey on 11, 12 and 13. He is +4 through four holes and has fallen 50 places down the leaderboard. He needs to straighten this round out in a hurry.

Alex even for the day 1/3 of the way through his round. He will not be playing the weekend. Kevin makes the turn 1 shot below what will probably be the cut line so he has work to do.

Kevin misses the cut, but it wouldn't have done much for him except some money. Even when he was about T50 he was not calculated to move in the standings. Before the tournament, he was 188 points behind 125th place. He needs at least 3 top-10 finishes to keep his card. That's why today was so disappointing after yesterday's stellar round, hanging on to a top-5 would have gone a long way.

Alex, on the other hand, was only 25 points back of #125 but will fall further/farther behind. I think it's a coin flip whether he keeps his card. He's within striking distance, but the way he's playing I wouldn't bet on it. It's been a terrible year. I say terrible year and he's still made over $650K...that's what he'll be missing out on if he can't keep his card.

At most 7 more chances. Alex may try to play all the events (may have to), but I doubt Kevin will.

Captain decided to go with Charly Hull over Leona today to start the tournament. Leona has not been good this year but is an amazing Solheim cup player with easily the best record of all Europeans and winning 7 of her ten matches. Leona has been magical in this event.

Hull and her partner were easily defeated. Wonder of Pettersen is going to regret that choice.
Neither Leona nor Celine scored a point today.

Only consolationis the US is up 6-2. US needs 14.5 to win the cup.

The whole thing just seemed weird to me. Leona won her singles match to go 1-1-0 for the cup. The broadcasting crew continually questioned the captain's decision to only put her out there twice. Leona has been stellar in the Solheim cup, easily being the best player in the previous two events. That's why it was so perplexing that she was only called upon twice. Here is how some of the others fared:

Linn Grant 0-4-0
Albane Valenzuela 0-1-1 (in the individual she was up 2 with 2 to play but lost 17 and 18 and tied the round. This was the deciding half point)
Carlota Ciganda 1-3-0
Maja Stark 1-2-1 (Stark's individual performance was another tough one in that she was up 3 with 8 to go and did not secure the full point).
Esther Heseleit 1-1-1
Emilly Pederson 2-3-0

I often found myself cheering for the Europeans in this event. They have 2 Duke players and I find Kupcho and Rose Zhang really unlikeable.

Doesn't that mean she was only called upon once? Everyone plays the singles. Makes it even worse.

You are correct.

My wife noted that Leona was walking a little strange. She has always had a bit of a limp as far as I remember, but it looked worse yesterday.

I was a little surprised to read that Leona aired, in public, her "grievance" with European team captain Suzann Petterson over not playing much in the first two days. Somewhat unusual to see pro golfers, either male or female, throw their team captain under the bus (although Phil Mickelson did the same thing with Captain Tom Watson, when the US men lost the Ryder Cup several years ago).

I didn't research all the records, but there was this from espn:

A few minutes later, Khang finished off an exhausted Emily Pedersen, 6 and 5. Khang went 3-0 this week when she wasn't hyping up the crowd and her teammates, while Pedersen played every session and went 2-3.

So Maguire gets one session over 2 days of group play, while Pettersen runs Pedersen into the ground.

Alex only fell 7 points further behind #125, but he also has 4 more guys to climb over. Our guys have the next 2 weeks off, and then are in Jackson Mississippi. Alex notched a T16 there last year, maybe he can make some noise.

Yes I did the same. Celine is a star golfer

The European captain isn't the only one who screwed up at the Solheim Cup. This from the wikipedia page:

The first day of play was overshadowed by major logistical issues that prevented many fans from reaching the course. Robert Trent Jones Golf Club (RTJ) is located in a private residential community served by a single road off U.S. 29. The LPGA, which is responsible for on-site operations when the Solheim Cup is held in the U.S., used Jiffy Lube Live, a nearby concert venue, as a paid parking facility, and intended to shuttle fans to RTJ. However, due to a lack of buses, many spectators were kept in line for hours, and portable bathrooms installed at Jiffy Lube Live were locked. According to one report, the first buses were intended to be loaded at 5:45 am, 15 minutes before the club gates opened, but no buses were present in the parking lot until 6:10 am—and the first three buses were reserved for volunteers who needed to get to their posts. Logistical issues were also evident on the night before play started; after the opening ceremony and a subsequent concert, fans had to wait as long as 21⁄2 hours for buses to take them back to Jiffy Lube Live.
