Duke Alums on the 2024 PGA and LPGA Tours

The PGA Tour season kicks off tomorrow with The Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui. Unfortunately no Dukies, it's limited to winners and the top-50 in last year's FedExCup standings (don't get me started! :p). $20M purse and 700 points available, so the participants get a big jump on the rest of the Tour.

Next week is the Sony Open in Oahu. Alex has played it every year so expect to see him. Kevin usually doesn't play it but did last year, so who knows. Adam has conditional status, so he'll be wait-and-see every week.

The ladies' Tournament of Champions isn't until January 18 in Orlando. There will be at least 1 Dukie there (sorry, I don't follow LPGA as closely).

Max Greyserman also has a 2024 tour card. Finished high on the KFT.

Alex has never made the cut here, doesn't appear this week will be any different. Started out so promising at -2 and was T3 early.

I don't know why I even bother paying attention. Alex is easily within the cut, then bogeys the 16th and 17th, then 3-putts the 2nd-easiest hole on the course to miss the cut by 1. Crap.

All 3 miss the cut. All 3 play again next week, along with Adam.

And Kevin needs to birdie the par 5, 18th hole to make the cut. Is beside the green in 2 and proceeds to take 4 more strokes to complete. Don’t know if his lie was bad, but pros typically get up and down from next to green.

Golf can be a frustrating game to play, AND to watch when you're rooting for someone. :D

Well after a disappointing week, there are four Dukies playing this week and most are off to a good start at the American Express. First round scores:
Smalley -6
Streelman -5
Greyserman -5
Long -2

The baddish news is that there are currently 76 players at -4 or better which means the projected cut is -8 to -9. The tournament uses three courses with the Stadium course seeming the most difficult - unfortunately none of our guys had to play it yet.

Presumably, the cut occurs after 54 holes, to allow players to play all three courses

Headed in to today’s 3rd round:

T36 Kevin Streelman (-10)
T51 Max Greyserman (-9)
T51 Alex Smalley (-9)
T130 Adam Long (-2)
