2024-25 Announcer Thread

My favorite part of these announcers - we didn’t have to listen to a slobberfest over the SEC teams. How great they are, they deserve all the no. 1 seeds, Broome deserves POY over Flagg because he plays tougher competition, etc. How refreshing!

If you have a moment or 2 to spare, give a look at the ND@Clemson game (ACCN, on right now). Not because there’s any hope that ND will win. But I think the analyst, Terrence Oglesby (talented Clemson player 2007-09), is quite good. And he’s paired with Wes Durham for our game Sat against FSU.

I think that Terrance Oglesby is the best color man I have heard, maybe ever. He was on the game, on point with insightful and timely observations without any schtick BS. I want him back over and over.
I mentioned last night that when he's talking about the game (he gets a pass in a blowout for talking about Leanord Hamilton vacations), he had me engaged in listening to what he was talking about. Truly informative in his analytics, which is becoming more rare these days.

TO was excellent. Focused primarily on the game. Well-prepared but didn't beat us over the heads with facts (I like Bilas more than most here, but he goes overboard in reading off the pre-game prep sheet he gets from ESPN). Good analysis. Injected humor really well without trying to be a comedian. Not afraid to question the refs.

I am eager to have him on more Duke games/games in general.

Totally agree here, CNC. Enjoyed the broadcast much more, than with either CA or JB, frankly. I thought he was actually quite funny and did add some inside basketball knowledge to the call of the game, without (like JB) trying to prove that he was smarter and more knowledgeable than everyone else. Hope to "hear" him on future broadcasts.

I've enjoyed TO on the field of 68 and I really enjoyed him last evening. I thought he was great.

As an aside, my lovely bride does not like games on the ACCN. Well, maybe it's not the games, but the commercials. Well maybe it's not the commercials, but her lesser half saying he is going to buy every tchotchke advertised. If I had to guess, that may be the issue.

I'm really enjoying the break from Cory "Edibles" Alexander.
(I have no idea about CA's pregame prep routine but it you told me he had one or two I'd believe you.)

He blissfully and amicably prattles on about anything but the game.

All the above praise not withstanding , I think they did a terrible job in addressing Cooper's eye injury. It was really downplayed when obviously he ( Cooper) was really struggling. The potential for a serious eye injury ( see Scheyer) or some impaired vision was totally disregarded......j especailly when Cooper got up to walk back to the bench.

I rolled my eyes when Coop headed to the bench and they said "He's walking off, he's fine".
Might not be able to see a damn thing, but at least his feet work.

I am part of the group that questions the value of the sideline reporter at most college basketball games as there usually is very little for them to add. But for this game it would have been very helpful as there was actually something for them to report on. Given where the announcers sit in Cameron, it is likely that much more difficult to handle situations like this as they are very far removed from everything. I assume the Duke SID does everything possible to keep them in the loop but it is not the same as being on the floor like at most other arenas.

Saw some of Cory doing a Clippers vs Lakers game recently. Maybe he can move on to the pro game.

The Field of 68’s DTF Pod, which is TO, Rob Dauster and John Fanta, is a good source if you want more TO. He also is a regular on the Field of 68 After Dark which I find is the only source of immediate coverage of every night’s slate of major college basketball games. TO works a lot. He is either a TV or radio guy for the Hornets and also does a ton of mid major college hoops on TV.

I have been listening to TO on the Field of 68 podcasts this season and found him to be a really good analyst. I was so happy/relieved to hear that he was going to be calling last night's game, and he didn't disappoint. Hopefully ESPN will feature him more heavily in the rotation.
He should be moved to the A team.

I think they handled it fine. There is no purpose served in rabid speculation at that time. Calm is the right pose and allowing it to develop as it will.
