2024-25 Announcer Thread

I say we trade Cory for Shulman and that pairs Bilas with Alexander. Now that would be a mute game for sure.

GoDuke!
All Duke basketball games are mute games for me. In fact, all sports on TV are mute games for me. I don't need someone telling me what I'm watching and seeing for myself. In terms of stats, chryons are enough. I'd love to have a no announcer, just crowd noise option for viewing like they have done for football playoffs.

Evan Bilas would be better than CA last night. What a joke of a color analyst.
Nope, like I said CA was worse that usual but not even close to Bilas level of bad.

Agree. He's terrible. Did I mis-hear, or did he actually say, of course based on his constant conversations with his best friend Kelly Flagg, that Kelly feels just as close to Khaman Maluach as she does to her own son(s)? What a dumb thing to say. One of many last night.
That's just it, he's not terrible so I don't get all the goofy hate.

A big part of watching live sports is the crowd noise. I can ignore Bilas for the most part...I just yell "shut up Jay" or "eff you Jay" a lot when he makes his hateful remarks and whines about block/charge, etc. Plus good announcers enhance the viewing experience....

I discovered on Saturday that when I turned off the sound as unc started their 2nd half run (and the voices from ESPN sounded more and more like the tarheel network) that Duke started playing better. n=1, and all that, but I left the sound off until the last 30 seconds to be certain that the experiment worked!

It's a fair cop!!

I got an OLED TV in February 2022, after the Duke/ UNC game in Capel Hill but before the rs finale. Watched both of those alleged games, and both 2024 games, on the OLED. Never again. I’m not saying the tv is jinxed but it seems silly to tempt fate.

I got my OLED about 3 months ago (Samsung s90d) and have really enjoyed watching games on it this season. A couple of times I actually put my glasses on in the house (I don't wear them often, mostly when driving) just because I realized the picture was good I needed the glasses to get the full effect.

I really don't like to mute games. It's so enjoyable to hear the crying Cheater fans as our Duke team crushes their hopes and dreams....

I mute while watching live and unmute for replays. Listening to them going crazy during the first 3 minutes of the second half is enjoyable knowing what is about to come.

I've watched the last game a few times and you're 100% correct...seeing them go nuts knowing the tears will soon be flowing is just a great experience.

I've watched the game vs the Cheats 3 times now. I have to say that after listening to Bilas, none of us should be criticizing CA. 9F and their biggest fan JB
I actually turned the sound off for a while as well...I was tired of the same tripe every game.

I had had enough when Foster went in, made a great stop on defense, and the announcers finally acknowledged his entrance to the game when he made a play on the offensive end.

That defensive stop was huge, and they couldn't interrupt there banter to actually discuss the game at hand.

I am dumbfounded by ESPN’s selection of CA and OB as the lead team for the ACCT. After Wes Durham and Boeheim join with CA for Tuesday’s afternoon doubleheader, it’s OB and CA for the Weds-Thurs aft games, plus the semis and final. Meanwhile, the superior pair, Brown and Crispin, are the second team and so get the Tues-Weds-Thurs night games.

Does ESPN actually get positive fan responses to CA’s self-absorbed schtick?

I don't know that anyone outside of this thread finds CA's 'schtick' to be annoying. Turns out, he actually has first hand experience with ACC play. I don't think he's great but I never feel like I need to mute the TV or throw a shoe at it like I do when JB hates on our team

I’m not a fan of Bilas, either. But as he and Shulman are doing the SECT, my point is that the relevant comparison is between the announcing teams of O’Brien/Alexander and Brown/Crispin. Imo, Brown and Crispin are much the superior team, and it’s not close. I agree with you that CA has plenty of experience with ACC play, but too seldom does he actually analyze the play on the court. He spends a lot of time on extraneous matters, even if those are ACC-related.

But it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that CA well understands the several interesting story lines that will organize this year’s ACCT drama, and will realize he’s not the story.
