NFL 2024-25 General Discussion

It's not the fact that he is speaking that is the problem. It is the ideas he espouses that are the issues. Your post seems to excuse the content on the basis of free speech. I don't think @JasonEvans would deny that Butker has every right to espouse his beliefs. But Jason himself has every right to dislike him for it if he finds that speech to be hateful. Free speech is a two-way street.
Very true. I just take way more exception to some of the other player actions that are, to me at least, much worse. Fathering multiple children with multiple women, physical assault, domestic abuse, etc.

Jason was correct about the uncalled pass interference. It should have been called but, as a Chiefs fan, I was ok with the no call.😉

In other words: a "garbage human being" has the right (in this country) to say what he wants. But doing so doesn't make him not still a "garbage human being."

Well, I guess I'm saying that "garbage human being" is a bit strong for someone I disagree politically. I'd probably rather not live next door to him either.

I definitely disagree that it is an "abomination" that he is on an NFL roster.

Free speech is a two-way street, absolutely true. You can say things that make me certain that you are an idiot. You can say things that might get you fired. You can decide that someone is a horrific person for what they choose to say. That's fine too.

This isn’t disagreeing with someone politically. I don’t think you are trying to say that homophobia, misogyny and anti-semitism are planks of a political party, are you? Jason didn’t take offense to the guy’s view on corporate tax policy or unions.

All I can say is that as a Jewish girl dad with several close friends and family members that are gay, I’m quite good with him being referred to as a garbage human being.

I couldn't conceivably disagree with the player any more than I do. I think the views are reprehensible and I'm diametrically opposed.

Jayden Daniels, QB of the Washington Redsk…uh, Commanders, just threw an absolutely beautiful 27-yard touchdown pass to essentially put the game away in Cincinnati.

I’m very impressed with this rookie QB, to my chagrin as a lifetime foe of the team in our nation’s capital.
RG4 was awesome tonight. 21/23 (rookie completion % record), 254 passing yds, 2 passing TD, 39 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD. Incredible.

Apparently that game was the first NFL game since 1940 that had no turnovers and no punts.

Washington's punter didn't punt at all in last week's game, either. Nice work if you can get it. I could have been the Commanders punter for the past two weeks and done just as well (I'd love to have Tress Way's paycheck for the past two weeks, that's for sure.)

Edited to add: I just looked it up and he makes 3.3 million per year, so my take for the two games would have been about $194K. Not too shabby for watching two games from the sidelines.

Oh my goodness, I didnt even turn the game on till the 4th quarter due to traveling, but wow. How bout Andy Dalton's performance. All of a sudden the Panthers have a little bit of life in them! That was a HUGE road win. Minchew wasn't so giggly this week.
Yeah. Before the game I was talking with a neighbor about how the Panthers have zero reason to even watch - not enough talent, suspect coaching, no depth, no QB, no draft pics, and a wildly inept front office.

But Daton stepped up and gave fans a reason to keep tuning in.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a Carolina Panthers fan in our midst!

To be honest, I’m a Panthers fan, too, and have been since my wife, myself, and our 6-month-old daughter moved to Durham in 2000 so that she could attend Duke Medical School. And even though we had always planned to move back to Austin, we decided to stay in the Triangje. Wonderful place to live and raise a family.

Anyway, I’m glad to see the Panthers get a win. But honestly, their franchise is going to be really really bad for years to come. What can you do, you know? I’ll still root for them as my second-favorite behind the Dallas Cowboys.

BTW, I wonder if it irks Charlotte residents that their NFL team is not even named after their city. The only other franchise that is not named after their city is the New England Patriots. They used to be the Boston Patriots, bit changed their name to New England in 1971.

I seem to recall it was a very intentional decision by the franchise. The original Panthers logo on the helmet was designed to resemble NC and SC together if I remember right.

I thought it was an odd decision at the time when I was living in Charlotte. It was supposed to increase buy in from Raleigh, Columbia, etc. I think the biggest change that would increase watching across bother states would be a decent team.

That was a nice drive by Cousins and the Falcons but Sirianni and the Eagles gave that game away.

He should have kicked the FG on their opening drive.

Even though Barkley should have caught the pass on 3rd down how do you not run it and keep the clock moving on 3rd and 3 when the Falcons are out of timeouts? Worst case scenario you go for it on 4th and less than 3 with less than a minute left. If you turn it over on downs the Falcons start from around their own 5 yard line and are playing for a tie instead of being forced to go for a TD down by 6.

If there is a personal fouls after a touchdown can that be enforced on the ensuing kickoff instead of on the PAT?

Eagles coach gave the game away.
