NFL 2024-25 General Discussion

Atlanta just made OPK and JE smile with a 30 second clinic on how to win a game. (Sealed the deal with an INT after a come from behind winning drive in the Eagles' nest)

That was a nice drive by Cousins and the Falcons but Sirianni and the Eagles gave that game away.

He should have kicked the FG on their opening drive.

Even though Barkley should have caught the pass on 3rd down how do you not run it and keep the clock moving on 3rd and 3 when the Falcons are out of timeouts? Worst case scenario you go for it on 4th and less than 3 with less than a minute left. If you turn it over on downs the Falcons start from around their own 5 yard line and are playing for a tie instead of being forced to go for a TD down by 6.

If there is a personal fouls after a touchdown can that be enforced on the ensuing kickoff instead of on the PAT?

Hey Southern, I reluctantly had to turn off the Falcons game when they were at the Chiefs 10 yard line down 22-17 with 51 seconds left and driving for the winning score. I’m assuming the Falcons won 24-22.

Please don’t tell me the Chiefs kicked a last-second field goal to win it 25-24. Because that would really suck. 😉

No winning FG necessary. Bolton with an amazing ankle tackle to stop Falcons on 4th down. 😁

I would give a strong assist to the KC defensive linemen who pushed left side of the Falcons offensive line into the backfield on that last play. It was surprising.

Watching Falcons-Chiefs. Great close game. But you know Chiefs gonna win.
Falcons suck, as they always do.

4th and inches and the Falcons run a sweep. I doubt they even have a tush push in their arsenal. I quite literally threw stuff at my TV when this happened.

Of course, that play was only necessary because the refs missed a really obvious pass interference on a pass to Kyle Pitts in the end zone moments earlier. I mean, how is this not called? The defender (who is not even looking at the football) is quite literally tackling Pitts before the ball even gets there.

What made the Falcons loss extra galling was that I was dearly hoping Harrison Butker's missed extra point would cost KC the game. Butker is a garbage human being and the fact that he is still on a NFL roster is an abomination.

I get that you disagree with Butker's positions on things, but 'garbage human being' is a stretch unless you know him personally and thus have some inside knowledge that the rest of us are not privy to.

He is on an NFL roster because he is a really good place kicker who helps his team win games, which is the point of the whole enterprise.

You do understand that the NFL has a fair number of other players that have done pretty heinous things like beating and verbally abusing their wives and/or girlfriends, right? If unsavory characters were not allowed to play professional football, there would likely be a few teams that would be missing players on their rosters.

Do we really want to start throwing penalty flags every time a defender just needs a hug?
Were you watching my Seahawks? 22 accepted penalties. Many many more were off-setting or declined.

Prompted me to look up "most penalized game" and learned it was 39 back in 1976. And my Seahawks were in that one too.

You are 100% correct that the NFL is full of unsavory folks. I wish the league would take a stronger stance on employing people who commit violent felonies.

As for Butker, anyone who openly -- to large audiences -- espouses antisemitic, homophobic, and misogynistic comments like he does is a garbage human being in my book. I mean, he may do a ton of great things elsewhere in life, but put a mic in front of him and he will espouse terrible, hurtful, and hateful words towards millions of people he has never met. To me, that makes him a garbage human being. Your mileage may vary.

Sorry for bringing it up. Probably does not belong here or anywhere on these boards.

Agree to disagree.

Yeah. I'm with rsvman on this one. I absolutely don't agree with Butker's views. But if he wants to talk politics when there's a microphone in front of him, more power to him.

If he were the kicker for my Seahawks I'd be upset. But as a kicker for a team I don't pay much attention to, I can't get upset about him exercising his freedom of speech.

He has the right to say what's on his mind. And I have the right to disagree with him. Lots of folks threw "shut up and dribble" at Lebron when he was speaking up about issues important to him. My personal politics are more aligned with James than with Butker, but I acknowledge they can both speak their minds.

I don't want to have beers with Butker. I wouldn't want him giving my commencement speech. I'd prefer my favorite team not sign him. But given the number of Greg Hardy, Deshawn Watson, Rae Carruth stories (and on and on and on), I'm not going to be upset with Butker speaking his mind.

It's not the fact that he is speaking that is the problem. It is the ideas he espouses that are the issues. Your post seems to excuse the content on the basis of free speech. I don't think @JasonEvans would deny that Butker has every right to espouse his beliefs. But Jason himself has every right to dislike him for it if he finds that speech to be hateful. Free speech is a two-way street.
