MBB: The 2025 Transfer Portal

I mildly disappointed Matthew McConaughey couldn’t convince All Wright to attend Texas…

He still could! That's the beauty of the transfer portal.

Speaking of awesome names, Magoon Gwath, the 7-foot redshirt freshman center at San Diego State, declared for the portal yesterday. His 2.6 blocks per game was 6th nationally, and he won Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year.

Not suggesting him for any specific school, but if it had Duke-like uniforms, we could call him The Blue Magoon.

I actually deleted my post because I realized you probably made a good McConaughey reference in your original post. You did so my attempt seemed unoriginal and I feel ashamed…

I don't think they are necessarily never going to be superstar P5 players. But they could have been solid rotation players if they were willing to stay and work on their game. And maybe they make it to the NBA as a bench rotation player. Evans season is a good example though admittedly he is more talented than both those guys. But his defense, rebounding, and "smarts" have substantially improved. He also has A TON of energy whether on the bench or on the court. 100% engaged at all times. I also noticed he is doing a little bit off the bounce now (which is something he could do in HS). The truth is, to survive in the NBA, unless you are at the All-Star level player, you HAVE to be at least an average defender, otherwise the other team will just hunt your matchup with switches and destroy you. Might as well improve those things going up against 2-4 NBA guys in practice everyday.

I personally hope that Jon's philosophy of everyone has to earn everything and anyone at anytime can play their way into the lineup will help us both keep players here and attract players in the future. That being said, if the goal is to come and light up for 25 PPG; with the talent we bring in as freshman, it may not be the good fit for every transfer (and thats ok). I read somewhere that having Harper and Ace Baily play together was actually good for them, since NBA teams see how they operate with other elite talent. Elite college guys are going to have to mostly be role players in the NBA and showing you can be efficient, thrive at creating opportunities off ball, making the right pass, and stepping up to take over a game when need are things you can demonstrate on a balanced elite team. I hope we do keep some our core this year Brown, Pat, Evans, and Caleb coming back would put give us a solid base for next year and I am not sure we are going to find any better overall 2 way players in the transfer portal.

He would be the perfect compliment big to come in off the bench we need a 3rd big

Cadeau has weaknesses and I don't think he fully committed to this year's squad, but he is a great non-scoring pg and Carolina will regret his absence.
I tend to agree. That kid has insane quickness and an improving 3 point shot. Since Hubert seems to like to follow Jon's blueprint, maybe he now believes in turning over the whole roster, but he forgot you need someone like Cooper coming in.
