MBB: The 2025 Transfer Portal

To your last point, I don't think any one of us have heard of Sion James yet here we are. You never know.
100% true and hopefully Jon finds some gems. We’ve seen how great depth is and Jon has been skillful at deploying it. I think this year he’s show that’s a real strength over K.

I would say that Pat, Evans, and Brown have shown far more actual skill and flashed potential that was greater than anyone who left last year besides Roach. And hopefully with a full offseason without injury Caleb can continue regain his upward momentum.

Total agreement on all points. Pat is a huge upgrade over Stewart, it's just that he got off to a slow start due to injury and started off as 3rd on the depth chart. Stewart would also be 3rd on the d.c. and would be putting up weaker numbers than Big P/Oat is. Evans is a huge upgrade over TJ Power, and Brown is an enormous ugrade over Reeves. Caleb is also a huge upgrade over Schutt. I was indifferent to whether Caleb should come back, but if he continues to play withe same verve for the rest of the NCAAT as he has in the 1st 2 games, I would hope for that Caleb to return. That Caleb could maybe earn a starting SG spot.

I saw a post that Chris Carrawell is following Donovan Dent on socials. Interesting. His stats are eye-popping. Mods, feel free to delete if this is unwanted rumor mongering...

I read that Dent was a high school teammate of Jared McCain? Is that true?

North Carolina sophomore point guard Elliot Cadeau has gone portaling, source told
@TheFieldOf68
. Cadeau averaged 9.4 points and 6.2 assists - and shot 34 percent from 3.
I used to mock Cadeau greatly. But recently he was starting to think better in using his quickness, and he was starting to hit 3s. If he returns, so be it. He's still short, even for a guard - he looks shorter than 6-1. He's defendable. But if he goes, I'm fine with that, too.

Still, if I were Carolina, I'd like to see him stay.

I soiled myself and listened to a brief podcast at IC, and he is gone. No talk of him coming back.

Could you say the same thing abour Duke losing Roach last year?
Roach was not then our only PG, nor was he projected to be the starting PG the following year. Jeremy's departure was a loss, certainly, but in hindsight his departure allowed CJS to find the players that make this team work. For example, I wouldn't want Roach to be playing more than Proctor, James, or KK in the PG/SG slots. He would probably be playing in front of the Caleb we've seen for much of the year, but the defensive identity of this team needs tall guards, and that ain't Jerm.
Jeremy gets much appreciation from me. He gave the team his all for 4 years and had a great career at Duke. This year's Duke team is special, and may very well be better without Jeremy on it than it would be with him.

I agree with everything you are saying, and I think that the Tar Heels will hope to be saying similar things about Cadeau next year - "we needed an upgrade, we would probably be better with him on the roster, but he wouldn't have seen the court much next season.

I agree 100% that I admire Roach and wish him well, and I don't think he would see more time than say Foster, and they would probably cut into one another's minutes on top of that.

Well, if the Holes are hoping to say something similar then they are delusional. They do not currently have a better PG on their roster the way Duke did (Tyrese) and i highly doubt that there is an upgrade to be found that would dramatically cut into the playing time that Cadeau could likely expect/deserve: Cadeau is a legitimately good-very good PG who just didn't have the right players around him. That being said, i do not know HD's plan for his team nor what style he's really hoping for nor if he can acquire the other players necessary for the type of PG that he's seeking. Or if HD has a plan or if he's trying to play any particular way...

Again, if you haven’t, read the Brendan Mark’s article on Jon’s thought processes following the NC State loss in the Elite 8 last year. He used the counsel of others to mold his vision for this year’s team (especially given the recruits he was bringing in) and then went out and created it. I would bet that there are very few coaches, especially at his young age, who have the basketball chops to pull off a roster construction such as this. The situation down the road seems that they see who they can entice to buy into the “C____ (ing) Way” and figure out what they’ve got when the dust settles, I.e., a bit more haphazardly done.
