I guess it's time. Let's try to restrict this thread to discussing players who have actually entered the portal or officially declared their intentions to do so. Let's NOT make comments like "We should totally poach this guy who might be happy where he is."
Like last year, I will attempt to keep track of the ins and outs of all 18 ACC teams. There has already been some movement during the season. First, 6-7 Virginia guard Jalen Warley left the team on October 29, soon after Tony Bennett retired in the preseason. He committed to Gonzaga in November and signed a financial aid agreement in January. Second, 6-7 Miami guard Isaiah Johnson-Arigu opted to transfer in early January, not long after Jim Larrañaga retired midseason. He chose Iowa as his destination a few weeks later. Both players will resume their eligibility next season.
Those were two ACC departures. Today we get an arrival, as former All-Ivy player Nana Owusu-Anane, a 6-8 senior forward from Brown, announced that he will play for SMU this fall. On3 reports that "he averaged 14.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game during the 2023-24 season. He is out for the 24-25 season due to a partially torn labrum. The plan for Anane is to enroll at SMU this summer and play for his new squad at the start of next season."
This is more good news for SMU, who already joins Duke and Notre Dame in having a strong incoming freshman class.
These are all unusual in-season transfer cases due to coaching changes or injury. The transfer portal officially opens March 24, but we'll be seeing a lot of players announce their plans to leave their current schools before then. The Miami board Canes Insight has a thread called 2025-26 Transfers, and it seems like they're posting about every single outgoing player, casting the widest possible net for new head coach Jai Lucas.
We don't need to do all that; Verbal Commits does a good job of maintaining a list of transfers. Just share ones here that you find newsworthy, for Duke, the ACC, or in general, and try to provide links whenever possible.
