Blue Devils in the NBA 2024-2025

I haven't been following too closely, and I'm just now jumping into a fantasy league. Is every Duke player hurt? Zion, Banchero, Ingram, Barrett, Bagley, McCain, Allen ... yikes!
I cannot imagine what it must be like for someone who has a NBA fantasy team that is built around drafting Dukies. Like if you had Zion, Paolo, Barrett, McCain, and maybe you also had Joel Embiid, Ja Morant, and Cam Thomas. Whew... can't imagine how tough that would be.

Wait, hang on a sec. I can most certainly imagine it.

Sigh...

I play fantasy in part to keep tabs on Duke players, but I didn't go overboard ...

FIRST ROUND
I passed up Tatum to draft Giannis 5th. Tatum went next. I've already received two ludicrous trade offers for Giannis. (Top four were Jokic, Wemby, Davis and SGA.)

SECOND ROUND
I got Trae Young. Kyrie went a few picks later. I don't consider Kyrie among my 100 favorite Duke players.

THIRD ROUND
Someone beat me to Jalen Johnson by two picks. Embiid went next. I got Sabonis.

FOURTH ROUND
I gambled that Banchero would last one more round because he's not yet back from his injury. I got Markkanen.

FIFTH ROUND
Gamble paid off. I got Banchero.

MIDDLE ROUNDS
No Dukies on radar. I got Jamal Murray, Miles Bridges and another of my favorite players, Jrue Holiday (I'm rooting for the Celtics these days, and his wife was a great women's soccer player)

NINTH ROUND
The rush on injured Dukies begins with Brandon Ingram, THEN Zion. I followed up with Lively.

Then I got three straight Dukies -- Barrett, Tyus Jones and Mark Williams.

Last round -- Zach Edey.

Zion is upgraded to day-to-day: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...uestionable-return-hamstring-injury-vs-wolves

Was reading an article on his contract, none of it is guaranteed because of how many games he has missed this year. Both the Heat and Warriors are listed as possible trade partners.
Would love to see him on the Warriors if they could find a trade worth making. Keep Zion's minutes down until the playoffs. Having Steph and Draymond passing the ball to Zion and getting to watch Zion finish in the paint would be fun stuff.

i mean, they could do the same in NOLA. Zion's body just won't let him play.

That why I mentioned that GSW can limit his minutes until the playoffs. They can't do the same in NOLA. They don't run the kind of offense in NOLA that the GSW run (movement and passing) and they don't have Steph or Draymond passing the ball....

I dunno; NOLA seems to be limiting Zion’s minutes pretty drastically.

Yeah, so far zero minutes. That's a good point. I'm guessing lots of people feel like I do: just wish Zion could stay healthy because he's amazing when he's on the court. I don't think NOLA is going anywhere so it'd would be great to see him playing with Steph....

I don't think Zion takes care of his own body enough to stay healthy. Despite being one of the most athletic people on earth, Zion isn't often in great shape. It is widely reported that Lebron spends millions of dollars a year on his fitness. He has personal trainers, yoga instructors, chefs, nutritionists, mental health experts, cryo therapy, heat therapy, massage and stretching specialists and a lot of other people and gadgets to keep him performing into his 40s. Lebron is still an athletic freak. If you've seen some of Zion's videos, it looks like he likes to sit around and play video games, drink mountain dew and eat chips. Zion is headed quickly towards the "what-if off ramp" where Greg Oden, Jay Williams, Brandon Roy and a bunch of others will be waiting to welcome him to the neighborhood.

hopefully we can separate the “what ifs” from those that lacked will and those were involved in horrific accidents.

I so hate having been wrong about Zion. When he entered the league, I was of the opinion that he was going to be a top five player in the NBA for 15+ years, which would have made him one of the all-time greats.

Clearly, I was wrong. His inability to stay healthy and be in top form at all times while on the court has been shocking for me. He’s also had significant issues with staying in shape, which I never would have thought would happen. And he also has had some issues off the court as well, which again, I never would have imagined happening.

But, my gosh, I don’t know if we will ever again see a college player as dominant as he was at Duke. What a joy he was to watch — absolutely electrifying.

So, thank you, Zion, for providing so much enjoyment for this long-time Duke fan. And I hope you get back on the court soon because you are a very rare talent — one that all fans of basketball should cherish.

At this point I don't think we know, at all, how much he takes care of his body. Early on he clearly didn't, but of late indications seem to be that he has...I just fear that his unique physique is going to be injury prone, but I guess we'll see.

Yes, indeed! "Unique physique" may well cause unique physical problems.
