2025 Men's Basketball Recruiting

Wes Miller at Cincinnati is a UNC alum and covets the job
That is what I meant to say. I know Goodman thought they should have hired him over Hubert in the begjnning. So weird that I typed in Wes Miller and it came out to Will Wade on the spell check.

Khamenia moves like a guard, even more than Kon. And he's taller, too. I see a lot of similarities in their style of play with a little Mike Dunleavy, Jr. mixed in there.

The staff is still actively recruiting Nate Ament. Assuming they land Ament, there won't be a lot of minutes available at the 3 or 4 next year. If Evans comes back, that's another player that is going to demand a ton of minutes. Khamenia seems like he is versatile enough to play almost anywhere. I wonder if the staff might see if Khamenia might work as the primary ball handler as a college version of Josh Giddey. Even without a jumbo center like Maluach, a lineup of Khamenia, Evans, Ament, Cameron Boozer, and Brown or Ngongba would be an absurd amount of length.

I've seen Khamenia described as the best passer in the class. While I am always hesitant about projecting minutes and roles upon all but the most elite of freshmen, I suspect he will find a way to impact next year's team and I would not be shocked to see him functioning at times as the primary offensive facilitator.

Just hope he is safe Hollywood Hills is the latest fire in LA. His school Harvard/Westlake is off Coldwater Canyon very close to the latest fire eruptions

I've seen him compared to Kyle Singler too. About the same size. Would love Kyle 2.0.

I know things can change in a hurry but its hard to see Evans getting a Rd 1 grade or guarantee if this is gonna be his role the rest of the year. I think he could be an 18ppg a night next year if he came back. Khamenia is like Singler but much better ball handler/distributer at this stage I am curious how the staff fits in Ament with what who I think is coming back. Ament fits perfectly if the staff thinks Evans can play the 2. I still think he is 3.

Sounds like we are going to be pretty crowded at forward and pretty thin at guard. Obviously the wildcard is the transfer portal both outgoing and incoming.

Yeah, a PG/Evans/Ament backcourt would likely struggle guarding quick teams and might have some ballhandling issues. The length and shooting might or might not make up for it.

Exactly. I am very intrigued about a potential Boozer/Ngongba 4/5 cause Pat does have a nice low post game while also being able to shoot the mid range and Cam can shoot the 3 pretty good. Those 2 defending the high pick n roll does worry me but that is probably because of the last years of K coaching defense and not Scheyer. We will need to have shooters around them. I hope Evans is back and Harris can earn some solid time at the 2 because he can clearly shoot.

Is there a concern about Cayden Boozer’s ball handling? I haven’t seen him play more than a few games, but looked decent enough.

No, I think it would be more the ballhandling of the collective three. Boozer is supposed to be a solid ball handler.

I think the concern is more that we have never had a freshman PG ranked this low successfully play big rotation minutes. Hurley, JWill, Kyrie, Tyus are all guys who were given the key to the sports car, but they were ranked higher coming in.

Maybe Paulus, Derryk Thornton, Trevon Duval, Chris Duhon are guys to look at more as comps. Don't remember where Duhon was ranked.

I may be misremembering but I think Duval was a top-10 prospect, possibly Paulus as well. Duke also handed the keys to Tre Jones who was ranked about where Cayden is. There will probably be an Emily Littella reply from me in the future, but that's what I remember.

Duke and Jon seem to pleasantly surprise me far more often than not, so I will assume the PG situation will work itself out next season.

Forgot little Jones! But did they hand the keys to Tre as a freshman? I think RJ took the keys...

In the summer RSCI, Cayden is ranked #18. He may go up, he may go down, we won't know until this coming summer.

In their respective final RSCIs:

Jason Williams was #3
Chris Duhon was #6
Greg Paulus was #13
Kyrie Irving was #2
Austin Rivers was #2
Trevon Duval was #5
Tyus Jones was #7
Derryck Thornton was #13
Tre Jones was #13
Jeremy Roach was #20
Tyrese Proctor was #97 (though due to his living in another country, only one service ranked him and they ranked him #35)

All of the above were starters as freshmen, at least nominally at the PG position.

As far as "successfully" playing big rotation minutes, Paulus led the ACC in assists and his team was #1 in the final AP poll, which sounds successful to me. Tre Jones was successful under almost any definition (except shooting percentage). Roach played decently, more of a combo guard than a true point, but his team was unsuccessful. Thornton had up and down moments, though he kind of shared PG responsibilities with Matt Jones. I thought Proctor was reasonably successful.

Admire the clever word play but I feel like Wes has done a pretty nice job at Cincy. They have gone from Kenpom #119 the year before he arrived to #101 in his first year, then #50, then last year #39, and they are currently #28. And he did all that while moving from the AAC to the Big 12, which is not easy on a program. His teams tend to play good, tough defense too, which is something I really don't want to see down the street in Chapel Hill.

There's a fairly solid argument that UNC made a mistake when they hired Hubert and that they should have looked to Wes instead. Give him UNC's reputation and history as well as their NIL commitments and I doubt we'd be talking about Carolina as a bubble team today.
I believe Hubert is the right person for the job and UNC would be wise to keep things the way they are.

What is an Emily Litella reply? Some of us uncool guys want to know.
