2025 Men's Basketball Recruiting

I think immediate recency bias might be coming into play here. It wasn't that long ago that Jackson/Powell gave Carolina their commitments as 2 very highly-rated recruits, but I think the several swing and misses on portal bigs this past summer, coupled with losing out on the Dybantsa sweepstakes ( to BYU!!!), AND Scheyer seemingly landing any recruit he goes after at this point...paints a more bleak picture than what the reality really is.
It's worse than just Dybansa though. They put out 17 offers this cycle and got commits from the two lowest rated - Dixon and Denis. Granted things could improve quickly if they sign Caleb Wilson.

No matter what they will likely need to sign several rotation players out of the portal to be competitive next year - maybe even 3-4 starters.

Pro what? Bass fishing? Does he speak Romanian?
His mom is Swedish. I believe in European leagues there is a cap on the number of non-European players so I think he will not count against the cap, which makes him more desirable there. So he's got that going for him. I don't want to say too much else because inevitably he will end up having the game of his life against us.

Ha, agreed, I am not among those who think we easily romp over them this year. They are rarely as bad as we want them to be.
If I were Cadeau I'd start watching the muppets and follow the Swedish chef closely....

His mom has taken some shots against UNC on Xitter too. I think the latest was about how more valuable kids will be in the portal with only 4 classes of eligibility.

Ya, I knew she wasn't thrilled about unc, but didn't know she was Nordic...keep it coming, ma!

UNC is in the midst of their worst half-decade in recent memory. That all started with the 14-19 season in 2020 and includes the preseason 1st to out of the NCAA Tournament run in 2023. Going from that to a more serious downturn would be quite the decade. It would be best for Duke to help out by beating UNC as many times as possible, both on the recruiting trail and on the court.
I think they made a deal with the Devil to beat us in the final Four, and the payment is 2 decades (or more) of mediocrity. They are paying a long term debt right now!

By "4 classes" I assume this is a reference to the covid bonus year having expired, so now there are only four year's worth of players available in the portal (actually three, but who's counting?)

When I first read the quote, I thought "4 classes of eligibility" was citing the total requirements to graduate at UNC.

Come on people. It would be fairly simple for the church to indirectly redirect money to the BYU NIL collective. Hey that $400,000 donation you were going to give? I heard from a few people that The Royal Blue could really use it.

I suspect this is how it also works for a lot of NIL $$ in other programs.

Yes, she was pointing out that there would essentially be double the departures (4th and 5th years) from teams' rotations making returnees like Cadeau more valuable than ever.

If you want to give mom credit for being strategic, she was signaling to boosters, "better be ready to pay up this year". 💰

Yeah, I think the distinctions being made between BYU boosters, LDS contributors, the BYU collective(s), and BYU itself are largely illusory. Whether a BYU booster makes a contribution to LDS, knowing LDS funds the university, including paying its coaches, or whether that booster makes his payment to the collective, knowing the collective is buying athletes for the university, and the like, what's the difference? With the church essentially sponsoring the university (as I understand it), whether the money goes directly to the university, or instead to the church which then forwards it to the university, or instead to the collective that also supports the university's programs, it's all the same money ending up in the same places.

Why is it so hard to believe that the LDS faithful, who are the most generous people on Planet Earth in terms of giving to their church, would not also be willing to give to BYU athletics?

By the way, the LDS church gives $1.0 B a year to BYU to help defray the costs of education for those who enroll. There are 30-35 thousand students there, so that's about $30,000 per year per student. Undoubtedly, this provides some indirect help to athletics, in terms of reducing tuition, fees and expenses for all students -- including those who play sports.

It's all fun and games on UNCs expense but some teams in Europe pay about 4 million a year for good players so it's not exactly pocket change either.
True, but it's the life-long dream of most players to play in the Association.

They do have a ton of spots for sure, but other teams are having a field day pointing out that unc is where OAD dreams go to die....their guys are struggling to get to the NBA, one after another. Meanwhile Duke and others can point to numerous OAD success stories, league all stars, etc.

While it has been true in the recent past that "unc is where OAD dreams go to die" (largely, I would bet, due to the long overhang of potential sanctions for the Af-Am shehanigans that hovered over UNC recruiting for most of the time from 2013 through them getting away with it in 2017, but the impact of which had to have lingered on at least the HS classes of 2018 and 2019) as Jason notes that's going to end in a big way this year with both Jackson and Powell having been Top 12 recruits who both seem on track to be 1 and dones and high draft picks -- likely very, very high for Jackson.

UNC either has a coaching problem or an NIL problem. Maybe both.

I'm not one of these fans who needs a strong rival year end and year out. I'd be fine with dominating them for a few years at least.

I'd be VERY surprised if Hubert is still the coach in 3 years...

I don't need UNC to be good, but I do prefer to have several other ACC teams step up, to challenge us in games before March and give us more margin of error to gain a better seed. Who, if not UNC, will step up on a consistent basis?
