2025 Men's Basketball Recruiting

I don't need UNC to be good, but I do prefer to have several other ACC teams step up, to challenge us in games before March and give us more margin of error to gain a better seed. Who, if not UNC, will step up on a consistent basis?
My bets? Louisville. Notre Dame. Pitt. SMU. Maybe Clemson/Wake. Miami should be a good program if they hire the right coach. GT could be on the rise.

In the short term Jon needs to keep scheduling aggressively like he did this year.

I suspect most of them may be diverting almost all of their NIL resources to football in preparation for future rounds of conference realignment. Maybe not Wake.

Meanwhile the SEC and B1G can drop a smaller percentage of money to basketball NIL while still easily outspending ACC teams. Maybe Notre Dame can do the same with their big football earnings, if they are of a mind to do so.

Yeah, I'm not claiming the conference will close the gap with the B1G and the SEC. I'm just pointing out the programs that may be rising while the Heels slide into oblivion.

UNC either has a coaching problem or an NIL problem. Maybe both.

I'm not one of these fans who needs a strong rival year end and year out. I'd be fine with dominating them for a few years at least.

I'd be VERY surprised if Hubert is still the coach in 3 years...
UNC isn't making the tourney this year which will probably be a good time for them to move on considering there roster construction. Will Wade would have my attention if they hired him.

Wes Miller at Cincinnati is a UNC alum and covets the job

Wes Craven would be a better fit.
Admire the clever word play but I feel like Wes has done a pretty nice job at Cincy. They have gone from Kenpom #119 the year before he arrived to #101 in his first year, then #50, then last year #39, and they are currently #28. And he did all that while moving from the AAC to the Big 12, which is not easy on a program. His teams tend to play good, tough defense too, which is something I really don't want to see down the street in Chapel Hill.

There's a fairly solid argument that UNC made a mistake when they hired Hubert and that they should have looked to Wes instead. Give him UNC's reputation and history as well as their NIL commitments and I doubt we'd be talking about Carolina as a bubble team today.

Clever word play was not the point, Miller is great but unc is something of a dumpster fire now and I like the idea of a horror master in charge, even if he happens to be dead.

I think they should hire Wes Anderson - their team looks weird, is visually disturbing, and the end result is always unsatisfying.

Miller isn't a flashy name, but he has proven to be a very capable coach. I think he would be the equivalent of Louisville hiring Pat Kelsey or Notre Dame hiring Micah Shrewsberry. The early returns suggest both coaches were not the flashiest names but have infused their programs with energy to various degrees. Despite being just 41, Miller has already been a head coach for more than 12 years. He seems to grasp both recruiting and the current NIL environment based on the roster at Cincy. UNC would be wise to consider him, so I hope they try to get a flashier name instead.

Greg Popovich would pair nicely with Bill Belichick.

Do you guys not read Brev's posts? Don't give them any ideas! They clearly read the Board!

What if I were to tell you that there is candidate for the UNC job who can boast:
  • Winning a national championship
  • More than a decade of head coaching experience, including stints at three different ACC programs
  • Experience playing and coaching under three legendary coaches with ties to the state of North Carolina
  • Several years spent on an NBA staff
  • Extensive training and experience in the business world, to help navigate NIL
  • Being a longtime member of the Carolina Family
They'd be crazy not to kick the tires on a guy like that, right?

I'm like, "Doh?"; who could that be?

(D')Oh. I was trying to fit Larry Brown in all that criteria.

I know he coached at ND and UNC, is there a 3rd ACC program he coached at?

SMU, same as Larry Brown.
