I agree with Indoor66, suggesting that Liz Cheney be executed is not really what he was saying. However, it is the usual M.O. of Trump to suggest violence in proximity to those that disagree and or oppose him. This isn't anything new at all.

I think what has me most burned about that clip is that you see a montage of violent rhetoric coming from him over the years. However, during this entire release cycle CNN, and most of the media mainstream, has been treating Trump like a totally normal political candidate.
To be fair since you mention CNN, Jake Tapper and Anderson Cooper have been really tough on Trump lately imo. Really calling him out.
On a side note Andersons take on Vance’s ‘normal’ gay guy comment was pretty funny.

I might be at fault a bit here but having too much discussion on what Trump exactly meant with his Liz Cheney comments isn’t going to help this thread. I think we can probably both sides this and all agree that it wasn’t very good. Leave it at that?

The bottom line to me is that he is saying things that no matter how you interpreted them would have been disqualifying 20 years ago. But now there are huge numbers of people that are completely OK with them. One could argue that perhaps we were a bit oversensitive in the past, but this huge pivot seems to many to be an over-reaction and has taken us to a really bad, unhappy place. Again, I'm not sure where your kids go to school, but this is not the behavior that I want mine being taught. But I'm just a NYC liberal snowflake, so what do I know.

I hope this doesn’t venture too far into PPB territory but I do not support executing Liz Cheney, either by sending a 60+ yr old woman to the front lines of combat or via firing squad, or really through any other means.

Yes, they certainly have. I totally agree they have been calling out the overt behavior - recently. But again, none of this has been new. It's been the same rhetoric for the past 8+ years.

The take on 'normal' gay guy was funny. I think I know what Vance really means by that. But probably not appropriate for this forum.

He's suggesting she go to the front lines of any war zone with a rifle and then she'd be less of a war hawk. This article is a bit better and provides more context. If CNN portrayed it as a call for execution by firing squad, they dropped the ball.

That's right. This is saying put her on the front lines with a rifle and see how she responds. It's not saying that she should be executed by firing squad. We don't allow people getting executed by firing squad to also have a rifle to defend themselves. As an aside, if I'm out manned 9 to 1 I'm probably going to surrender. Unless I have an aversion to being taken captive. But I think I have more of an aversion to being shot. That is subject to change.

I’m not really sure what a modern civil war would even look like.
Fortunately, I don't either. I'd just as soon keep it that way. But my statement still stands. People won't get sufficiently agitated about most things, but effectively being deprived of all semblance of democracy? Yeah, I think that would do it.

I personally believe that doing this would lead pretty directly to civil war.
I would honestly rather Trump win the election outright than Harris get enough votes to win only for the states GOP party to not certify their votes, or delay sending electors, anything where they are transparently trying to steal the election. To me, that would constitute an insurrection and probably justify Biden using emergency powers.
If Trump wins the EC, then well that sucks but thats the game. If he loses and tries hijinks, then its going to be bad. He doesn't care what happens to anyone, friend or foe, just as long as he wins. The question is will the rest of his lackeys go along with it. Who are the true believers that will do what he wants regardless of consequences, vs the opportunists that would be looking at a long jail sentence and can just find someone elses boots to lick when the party moves on from Trump?

I feel like there is a good but of snark and some fairly wild conspiracy theory kinda stuff happening in this new thread and I would like us to tamp down on that a bit, especially the snark.

Analysis, not opinion. "Merrick Garland could awaken from his stupor" is opinion. Jokes about Trump riding around in garbage trucks is snark we don't need. There is plenty more.

Help me out here, people... please.
Alright, alright, guilty as charged! Replace with "the AG and FBI could probably intervene to de-escalate."

Hmmmm. Why on earth would trump spend his final days in NM and VA?
Well, here’s a bit of what he said in NM:

“New Mexico, look, don’t make me waste a whole damn half a day here, OK?” Trump told the crowd on Thursday.

“First of all, Hispanics love Trump, they do. True. I like them. They’re smart. They’re a lot smarter than the person running for president on the Democrat side,” he said, once again taking a shot at Vice President Kamala Harris’ abilities.

“So I’m here for one simple reason,” Trump said. “I like you very much, and it’s good for my credentials with the Hispanic or Latino community.”
