2024 FB Bowl Watch

Palm currently has Duke in the Sun Bowl against the Calgorithm. Clemson is his pick for the Mayo bowl.

Two ACC teams in the Sun Bowl? That doesn't make much sense... I can't imagine the bowls would select teams based on outdated conference affiliations. As soon as the conference dissolved, any contractual obligation to select a PAC-12 team must have gone the way of the dodo...

PAC 12 bowl game affiliations remain in place through 2025.

Seeing as Duke and California do not play in the regular season, a Sun Bowl matchup is a real possibility.

ESPN's latest guesses.

Duke's Mayo Bowl (Fri Jan 3rd)
Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte, North Carolina)
7:30 p.m., ESPN

Bonagura: Duke vs. Rutgers

Go Bowling Military Bowl (Sat Dec 28th)
Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (Annapolis, Maryland)
5:45 p.m., ESPN

Schlabach: Duke vs. Navy

That Military Bowl would be a fun one for Bob, he can't lose!

Bob is correct, and how do Phantom PAC 12 bowl tie-ins make less sense than anything else? 😂

I don't see Duke playing a bowl game and home basketball game at the same time. Something has to and will give--perhaps the basketball game gets moved to noon on ACCN, but I think it's more likely Duke gets passed over for that one in 2024 without much kicking and screaming from anyone.

Duke should absolutely not pass on one of the more prestigious ACC bowls because of a basketball game.

Something will give. I don't have the ACCN schedule to make suggestions. I also don't see both GT and Clemson getting passed over for Duke using ACC record, which is what that list assumes. Duke would be the 8th or 9th pick based on conference standings right now.

Agreed as to GT and Clemson, but not sure why we are 8 or 9 instead of 7. And is it possible for Duke to request a different time for its basketball game? Sure, it's possible. But will Duke or anyone else let that game time influence Duke's bowl game. Not a chance in Carolina hell.

In any event, past forecasts of our bowl game have been notoriously inaccurate...way too many moving parts....

I wonder if the Mouse really wants to take their prize basketball property and go head-to-head with a football game that features that same property on Paramount. Not good for the brand if they do in-brand competition, but on the other hand, having something to distract from a network rival has got to be tempting. But I'm not sure there's a clear case for a head-to-head, especially if the brand owner complains.

But, not something they have to worry about just yet.

Do TV networks really have enough of a stranglehold on college athletics that they can tell a bowl organization "don't select this one team because it would conflict with something else we're showing at the same time"? Not that I would be hugely surprised by that, but I guess I find it a little hard to believe as yet.

Stranglehold? It’s worse than that; if ESPN offered $1,000,000 to UNC to change their name/mascot to Cheaters - it would happen in a nanosecond.

Our bowl game will not be affected by Duke's basketball schedule. It hasn't before and it won't this year. Basketball times can be shifted if necessary, but don't think of that as a factor.
