2024-25 Schedule Intel

I would pay money to watch that game. PVI would have a big height and athleticism advantage. But the women would school them on all fundamentals including shooting. Where the boys would likely have a decisive advantage is with rebounding. But I think the game would be a lot closer than 25 points.
Shooting? No. The top shooting WNBA team has shot 45% overall, and only two teams shot over 35% from 3. That's with a small ball and obviously against women defenders.

Don't forget these are WNBA all stars vs a HS team. I'd definitely take the women on open 3s. How many open looks would they get? That would be the issue....

Speaking of checking the schedule...

I just went to GoDuke.com and the site is.....missing? Is there something weird going on with my browser or is the site not loading as expected for anyone else?

It loaded for me just now. There's no schedule for any part of next season showing there yet, though.

If it isn't a G-League team or player, I think the most interesting person to visit Cameron Indoor Stadium would be Rick Pitino. There was talk of a game between Duke and St. John's at Arthur Ashe Stadium. That game fell through, but perhaps the Johnnie's will make a trip to Durham?

Women’s NCAA routinely play against men’s practice teams composed of former HS players. I think the women more than hold their own. The U.S. Olympic team against a HS boy’s team would be completely uncompetitive. Quit dissing the women. It’s not justified.

It would be cool if it came down to the last shot.

I have doubts that the coaching staff would want to play a game against a team just because they have a recent transfer. That doesn't strike me as a positive experience for anyone with the possible exception of Jeremy Roach and Baylor.

Familiar coaches makes more sense to me. Nolan Smith just joined Johnny Dawkins's coaching staff at UCF.

But I wonder if the coaching staff wants to make a bigger splash and do something a little different. That's why my mind went to the G-League and Wojo's new gig as the coach of the SLC Stars (featuring possibly one or both of Kyle Filipowski and Armando Bacot?).
The Baylor/Roach matchup is what I thought of initially, but DBA raises a valid counter-argument. I still think this matches the criteria best.

Nobody is dissing the females. The Olympic team probably would beat some of the teams I see during the season but a good 4A team would hold its own. A team of players in the "100-200" category would not have any trouble.

The physical difference in the sexes is far more pronounced in basketball than it is in tennis (or golf as another example).

There was a pretty good pickup game I was involved in for a few years. I was easily one of the worst players out there. Among the folks who would sometimes show up were two former WNBA players who were just a couple years out of the league and still in their late 20s/early 30s. We also had a couple guys in their 40s who has played D3 college basketball about two decades ago.

The former college guys were leaps and bounds better than the former WNBAers. One of the WNBA women had been an all-star once or twice and if she had played the fmr. college guys it would have been a final score like 11-2 or so. The quickness and explosion, two huge factors in basketball success, were just on different levels.

Make no mistake, the women had a major advantage on all of us in terms of seeing angles and feel for the game, which is a significant thing, but their physical liabilities meant they were rarely better than the 2nd or 3rd best player on their teams even though they were mostly playing with guys who had been nothing more than high school basketball players a couple decades ago.

My son, who was a high school player for his small private school in suburban Atlanta (soccer was his better sport but he was a 5th starter in basketball as a senior), came and played some of the time. He remarked to me after one session that if he was a woman, he could easily play P5 D1 basketball. He wasn't wrong.

From what I understand, a D1 team can only play an "open" exhibition against a non-D1 team. A team like UCF or Liberty would require a secret scrimmage that is closed to the public or a charity game. If it is a charity game, it most likely wouldn't be held at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The NCAA may be considering changing that rule.

"Secret" scrimmages could be even less secret in the future.

You got the wrong guy! I wasn't dissing the women. I was defending them and saying the game would be a lot closer than others speculating upthread...

My nephew graduated from Michigan last year. He was a decent high school player in NY, not nearly good enough to play college at any level. He and a few of his similarly-ability friends went over and got themselves involved in practicing against the Michigan women's team, and held their own against them just fine.

As far as the womens Olympic team playing against a good HS boy's team, just consider a team like Paul VI last year. In addition to the guys who came to Duke, those being 6'10" Pat Ngongba and 6'6" Darren Harris, the team also featured 6'10" Garrett Sundra, who is going to Notre Dame, and 6'7" Isiah Abraham, headed for UConn. And those were just the seniors. It's not dissing the women to point out the obvious: they would have no chance against the size, length, skills, and athleticism of a good high school boys team.

I think the HS boys would probably win, but I don't know if I buy "no chance". We've seen up close how teams that were physically overmatched by Duke can sometimes upset us or come very close to upsetting us. I won't list the teams here but we all know them. Again this is not a college team or even a WNBA team, this would be the best women in the world...
