2024-25 Schedule Intel

With Wofford added, here's what I think the non-conference schedule looks like as of today, with T-Rank preseason ranking:

November 4 vs. #217 Maine
November 12 vs. #23 Kentucky in Atlanta (Champions Classic)
November 16 vs. #150 Wofford
November 22 @ #10 Arizona
November 26 vs. #4 Kansas in Las Vegas (NIL Tourney or something like that)
November 29 vs. #138 Seattle in Las Vegas (NIL Tourney or something like that)
December 4 vs. #7 Auburn (ACC/SEC Challenge)
December 17 vs. #85 George Mason
February 22 vs. #20 Illinois in NYC

There are two more games to announce. I wonder if they will be a multi-team event at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The last two games won't be an MTE, because technically our matchup with Kansas (and the related Seattle game) are classified as an MTE I believe.

Once again, I like what Scheyer is doing with the schedule here. Wofford isn't a traditional "cupcake" like Maine is (they actually have some tourney upsets to their name, IIRC), but also is a step below the George Mason/Seattle games that are a cut above traditional tune-up contests. Wofford has a shot to be a Q3 as opposed to Q4 win (minimizing the # of Q4 games may not make a huge difference, but at least looks nice on our team sheet aesthetically, haha), but more importantly playing better teams and beating them as expected helps the efficiency metrics. Beating a Wofford team ranked somewhere between 150-200 on KP by 30 is going to boost our metrics much more than beating a basement dwelling team by a similar margin (since we traditionally don't run up the score on anyone).

Perhaps most importantly, the better the teams we schedule relative to what we've done historically, the more I think that points to Scheyer's confidence in this team. Him scheduling "cupcake" games against teams in the 75-200 range as opposed to 200+ is a departure from the norm, even if it isn't an eye-catching one. That, to me, speaks to his confidence that this isn't a team that is going to get caught napping.

Assuming the rumor about Syracuse as the first game is correct, there are the holes in the schedule. Wofford on Saturday screams no TV, but I hope I'm wrong.

I'd bet a whole bunch of pies that a Duke game will never again not be available to view in some capacity. Worst case scenario is its available as an ACCNX game through the ESPN app. FWIW, I believe Duke football has a bye that Saturday, right?

I think the Seattle game is supposed to be at home, but it's still part of the MTE. That would allow Scheyer to schedule 1 more game away from home.

My 11 y/o and I are doing to the 12/17 game.

Have our Wa-Duke and Fearrington House reservations, but not sure how to get tickets for the game. Any advice would be welcome.

If you are an Iron Duke, you can request tickets through them, although there's no guarantee. Those tickets are likely to be in the bleachers but since the students are likely gone (other than a few stragglers or line monitors) there will be more available, and the views are better than the usual in the corner ones. This is probably your best bet. The ushers do a great job getting the younger/shorter kids in the front so they can see, and also so they can line up after the game to high-five the team as they come off the floor.

Since it's a Tuesday night game just before Christmas, there will be a lot of tickets on the secondary market upstairs. Frankly, the prices on Tricketmaster, StubHub etc. are way too high. If you were alone, I'd suggest going without pre-buying, and lifting one friendly finger in the air. You can do this for two and likely get them, but traveling I can understand wanting to be sure ahead of time.

You can also post a request here in the Ticket Exchange (do it now, although it's way too early for most to know their plans for that night.) The face value of a ticket is ~$110-140 depending on the location. Remember this is not the cost to the season ticket holder, as there's a "stadium level" donation requirement for most that increases the true cost about $200 per game. Scalping is not allowed here, so if you offer to pay face value, the ticket holder here would likely be happy to accept your offer. In addition, as a "known" participant here, you're more likely to receive offers than the new members with one post on their resume (that post being the ticket request.)

When do we believe the men's conference schedule will be released ?
Probably not for a while. Last season, Duke issued the press release that confirmed the conference schedule on September 26, which is kind of hard to believe honestly. (They issued the press release with the non-conference schedule on July 18, so we're running way behind last year for the non-conference schedule.)

Awesome, thanks for all of this!

I went this route for a number of years before I was able to move up in the world. For a midweek game, while the students are away, against a mid-major opponent, there should be no question about getting into the building even at the lowest giving level for an Iron Duke. It is only a question of whether you can score actual seats rather than the bleachers. Get your order in as soon as the schedule is announced and the ticket exchange opens up and there is a good chance that you will get seats. The unnerving part is that the ticket office will not contact you until a day or two before the game with confirmation that your application was successful and your exact location. On the other hand, for a conference game, on a weekend, during the semester, I could not pick up an extra ticket of any kind last year even as a middle management Iron Duke and football and basketball season ticket holder.
Have our Wa-Duke and Fearrington House reservations
You are a good dad! This is the lineup I would go with if Mrs. Whyte joined us for a game. Otherwise, my son and I lodge at the Crumbum Arms and take our meals at Waffle House.

I noticed that too and it seems odd. My recollection is that the recent MSG games have been essentially "Duke productions" (i.e., Duke rents the building, does the sponsorship deal, controls most of the tickets, etc.), so if they were doing it that way again you'd sort of have to expect Duke/the ACC would want the game to go to ESPN/ABC. Maybe one of Illinois' negotiating points for the deal was to have it on the BIG's network?

Maybe Duke is trying to give the Big Ten/FOX a direct measure of how many additional folks will tune into a Big Ten game involving Duke. :)

Maybe I am misremembering, but it feels like Duke pretty rarely plays a normal regular season game on a network other than ESPN/ABC. This game will be broadcast by FOX.

When it comes to non-event non-conference games it seems like the home team gets the "rights"... I have faint memories of some Michigan games played in Ann Arbor that are on Fox networks, but road games on ESPN networks. My guess is that this means that in some fashion Illinois is the "home" team, so to speak, for this event.

It will be interesting to see if this becomes a sticking point in non-conference scheduling moving forward. Will there be less home-and-homes with B1G opponents because they are no longer under the Disney umbrella? How would that impact the Big East? That could be an interesting side-plot to conference realignment in the coming years.

It also could be Duke traded the Fox rights for more tickets. This game is primarily an ID fundraiser after all.
