2024-25 Schedule Intel

An addendum from the source is confirmation of an exhibition game versus Lincoln (Pa) on October 19th. They apparently went 17-14 in DII last year, so a far cry from the Coach K tradition of scheduling the DII National Champ. It'll be interesting to see if that's all there is on our exhibition slate.
I wonder if this is one of the reasons we are playing Lincoln in an exhibition?

I assume another exhibition is yet to be revealed, based on Jason Evans's hint in post #132 of this thread...
Yup... There's a long time between the Oct 19 exhibition and the start of the season on Nov 4.

Hard to imagine the game being anywhere other than McKale. Not like Tucson has an NBA venue.
I wonder how the Cats plan to revive the "cheat Duke out of a 3-pt goal," like the last time we played there. Greg Koubek for an obvious try in the first OT, IIRC.

It seems odd that there are no exhibition games this season. At least it's different. I guess the games against Maine and Army are as good as exhibition games but in the past there has always been one or two exhibition games against non-D1 teams.

Of course, they won't announce it but there should also be a "secret" scrimmage before this season. I wonder when we'll hear about that.

There are exhibition games. There's one against Lincoln University. That's posted on the GoDuke website. Jason has hinted that another exhibition is in the works with a "big name."

I'm guessing either a charity game or a "secret" game.

If it's a charity game, it's going to be at an odd time. The only Saturday is the SMU home football game and probably Parents' Weekend. I know from the two times I did the FB/MBB doubleheader it was exhausting and a parking nightmare, and I remember those two noon football games during the height of Cutcliffe era were L's.

Be prepared for a long day...

No, it is not Duke schedule intel, but this is still interesting news about teams playing other teams.

Let me tell you, that is one loaded field! Here is how Torvik rates each of these teams in his preseason rankings --

UConn (12) v. Memphis (25)
Michigan State (17) v. Colorado (116)
Auburn (7) v. Iowa State (3)
North Carolina (6) v. Dayton (70)

6 of the 8 teams are in the Torvik top 25. I think it is fairly likely 4 of these teams will be in the preseason top 10. Come on!!

OK, so there's the potential for two games where you guys won't chide me for rooting for UConn... against MSU and UNC. A win for me! ;)

As an aside, don't ask me why the graphic from the Maui Invitational website has a picture of Zion Williamson. I got no good answer to explain that one other than "they have not updated the website since well before the pandemic."

When's Duke going back out to Maui? They were going regularly every four years, I think, but not lately.

Duke's last Maui Invitational was 2018 with Zion and company. Auburn and Iowa State also played in the 2018 Maui tourney. Duke played and beat Auburn in the semis (78-72) that year before losing a tough one to Rui Hachimura and Gonzaga in the Final.

All of the programs playing in this year's field have played in the Maui Invitational before. Among those teams, UNC is the most recent past participant, losing in the Final to Texas in 2020. Dayton and Michigan State last played in 2019. Colorado (2009), Memphis (2011), and UCONN (2016) round out the field. So, if you were to add Duke to this year's group, Duke would be at the median in terms of last Maui appearance. Maui has already announced the 2025 field, so the soonest Duke could return is 2026.
