Especially when paired with a nice Zinfandel.Sciambi and Friscilla are terrific. Focused on the game, knowledgeable, friendly and funny.
Yes, that was really stupid. I don't think James and Gillis even touched each other. Was anyone else talking to Corey through the tv when he went on and on about how the foul was really on Mason Gillis for tripping Sion James when the replay showed over and over again that the NC State player had lowered his shoulder and barged into James? While Corey was talking about reversing the call, it appeared that the refs were reviewing the footage to determine if the common foul should be upgraded to a flagrant.
Then I think OB agreed with CA. Which made it even worse. Because his job is to keep CA under controlYes, that was really stupid. I don't think James and Gillis even touched each other.
Yes, and I may have been a little loud on my end. I had to text a non-Duke fan friend to see if my fandom was clouding my judgement there or if Corey was being absurd. Was anyone else talking to Corey through the tv when he went on and on about how the foul was really on Mason Gillis for tripping Sion James when the replay showed over and over again that the NC State player had lowered his shoulder and barged into James? I have another “I don’t know why” issue. Does the ACCN not recognize Dan Bonner’s excellence? He’s not on the call tonight for either Wake at UofL or UNC at Pitt. He is on the call tomorrow night for VT at FSU.I don't know why they spend the money to send a sideline reporter to the game. Doesn't seem like a good use of budget.
I've also never been able to figure out the pattern for when college basketball broadcasts air a sideline reporter interview with one of the coaches on the way into, or out of, halftime. It's certainly not every game, the way the NBA structures it (with one coach being interviewed between 1Q and 2Q, and the other between 3Q and 4Q), where I believe the NBA coaches were required to participate on national broadcasts (ESPN and Turner). Then I think OB agreed with CA. Which made it even worse. Because his job is to keep CA under control
CA was better than usual last night. Still far from my favorite, but less bothersome than usual.
I don't know why they spend the money to send a sideline reporter to the game. Doesn't seem like a good use of budget. Basketball in general is a tough sport for sideline reporters. Cameron is a particularly hard place to do it (though since the announcers are so far removed there is the benefit of being closer to the court). This wasn't that big of a game. And this reporter really didn't do much.
I had the sound muted when I saw that Corey was doing the game. When the play you're referring to occurred and the camera was going back to the play, I thought Corey is saying Sion faked that and that's why they keep showing it. It's bad when we know what Corey or Jay is saying without even hearing it.I liked how Corey pulled a Bilas and stated a fact incorrectly, and then repeated it at least twice afte video replay clearly showed that he was wrong. What play am i referring to? When Sion was hip-checked in the lane by a State defender, and he then tumbled onto the floor. CA stated that, no, it was in fact Sion's teammate Mason GIllis who tripped him and it shouldn't have been a foul but instead OOB ball to NCSU. He even got OB to concur at lest once, although OB may have then seen the replay and decided that the better part of valor was silence.
Although Gillis was also in the lane, he was behind the State player that James clearly ran into, and was then bounced out away from Gillis, landing a couple of feet to MG's side.
I'm sure Corey got several other calls wrong, but that one stood out to me.
Interesting, I thought he was worse than usual last night, which is saying something. It felt like not only did we have to deal with his usual odd asides, like admitting to everyone that he had been googling Kon's mom, but it felt like he was more openly antagonistic to Duke (such as the ridiculous and repeated comments about Gillis being the player that "fouled" James as noted in the preceding posts).Corey didn't bother me as much last night. Mwas tha me or him? Anyone have a similar reaction? He seemed more on point to the game.
I'm pretty sure Dan, who is excellent, i agree, does more than ACC. He may be working another game, or maybe he needs to be home for a grand daughter's recital?!I have another “I don’t know why” issue. Does the ACCN not recognize Dan Bonner’s excellence? Yeah, you’re gonna be pulling a “Maluach” if you try that.New drinking game: every time CA says “when you consider,” “the painted area,” or “you have to give X a lot of credit.”

Maybe Bonner is senior and gets to choose... and preferred to be in Florida.I'm pretty sure Dan, who is excellent, i agree, does more than ACC. He may be working another game, or maybe he needs to be home for a grand daughter's recital?!
Debbie Antonelli (NC State alum/player) having difficulty being objective tonight as the NC State women host our Duke team. It was especially bad in the third quarter; I thought maybe I was watching an NC State broadcast of the game on ESPN2.She absolutely does…that’s the only way I know whether I’m listening to Doris or Debbie: if the commentary is coherent and insightful, then Doris, else Debbie.
That might be the understatement of the entire thread.Debbie Antonelli (NC State alum/player) having difficulty being objective tonight as the NC State women host our Duke team. It was especially bad in the third quarter; I thought maybe I was watching an NC State broadcast of the game on ESPN2.
