Aka crowdsourcingYes, they leave "minutes discussion" to us peons. And, quite possibly, the parents of the players.

Sourcecrowding more like!Aka crowdsourcing
I wouldn't say "posters" I'd say Jason. And wouldn't say "written off" but more just reporting. If Jon said 7 are standing out it's probably safe to assume those were the 7 Jason mentioned and Mason wasn't one of them.Apologies if this has been posted but there sure is a lot of praise for Mason in this article for someone who is being written off by posters.

But, the B10 is not that good. It really isn’t.I wouldn't say "posters" I'd say Jason. And wouldn't say "written off" but more just reporting. If Jon said 7 are standing out it's probably safe to assume those were the 7 Jason mentioned and Mason wasn't one of them.
I wish Jason hadn't suggested 5 minutes for Mason and just said "outside the top 7." Because if a healthy B10 6th Man of the Year plays 5 minutes per game, that's ridiculous.
Jason is reporting facts. The facts are that Jason saw Mason get very limited run with the obvious starters at a practice, and sources confirmed this is a trend. That’s what a journalist is supposed to do.Apologies if this has been posted but there sure is a lot of praise for Mason in this article for someone who is being written off by posters.

Facts or observations? I think Jason is running with scissors when he doesn't need to. I get he has connections and wants to be the guy with the scoop. I've enjoyed listening to his pod and reading his posts but think he gets too entrenched with the hot takes. But that is the world we live in. You do hot takes, your gonna get the heat. It is like going on Hot Ones and complaining that the wings are too hot.Jason is reporting facts. Everyone can interpret that data and draw conclusions as they like. But can we please stop turning that into veiled attacks at Jason? It’s getting a bit ridiculous IMHO
I don’t know if you are directing that at me since I was quoted but I just offered up an article written by a journalist with direct quotes from the coaches. I hardly believe that to be an attack on Jason. Are we only allowed to post articles about Duke basketball from a select few journalists? Steve Wiseman seems as good as any.Jason is reporting facts. Facts. What happened in a practice that Jason was there for that we weren’t is a fact. That’s wholly distinct from Jason’s interpretation of those facts, which is that if the season started today Mason would be playing single digit minutes. Now, I think that’s the most reasonable interpretation of those facts, but it isn’t the whole story, and as we gain more facts our interpretation may change. If you disagree with Jason, that’s fine, but I think it’s important to disagree with the interpretation rather than the reporting of the reality itself. That’s where some of this conversation has gone (and sincere apologies if I’m inappropriately attributing that to you or anyone else) that I think is frustrating and borders on a personal attack.Facts or observations? Apologies, this wasn’t meant to be directed at you in particular. I think Wiseman’s insight is a good additional data point to more fully tell the story. That doesn’t nullify what Jason was bringing to us, because that happened, but it does speak to the reality that that obviously isn’t the whole story.I don’t know if you are directing that at me since I was quoted but I just offered up an article written by a journalist with direct quotes from the coaches. Applenews is paywalled. Anyone have a direct link to the article?Apologies if this has been posted but there sure is a lot of praise for Mason in this article for someone who is being written off by posters.

I 100% agree, so apologies if it seems like that meant ignoring! We’re definitely on the same page on that front… that is a critique of Jason’s interpretation of the facts/data which is by all means more than fair game. I was trying to focus more on what I found problematic about the discussion rather than the significant portion of it that was normal message board debate, but I didn’t tell the whole story. Oops!Scott, you seem to be ignoring Jason's comment about guys unlikely to play significant minutes once competitive games start. That is not a fact, nor is it an observation, it is a projection, and projections are fair game for criticism.
Now I'll go away.
Thank you for the Wiseman article. I guess Jon could have changed his mind about the "toughness" issue he talked about in the interview with Steve, and he's excited about the freshmen. I too am excited about the new guys, but I know sometimes freshmen wilt under pressure in big games. Experience matters and I think Gillis had that experience and toughness.
Out of curiosity I took a look at the last 10 Big 10 6th Man of the Year winners. Half of them won the award their senior season. For the rest, here are their minutes played the year after they won the award: 33, 21, 32, 33,19, 31.But, the B10 is not that good. It really isn’t.
Well thankfully, we do have rim protection this year! There can be downsides to size, though. I'm very interested to see how we do against small, quick teams. Duke's defense has traditionally had issues when it cannot contain dribble penetration, and we may have some weaknesses in that area, especially a guy like Kon. But it is hard to see those until you play live games against opposition you don't know.
And if Malauch gets in foul trouble we have a pretty good back up plan in Brown and of course, we have Cooper for off the ball defense. I don't want him inside getting pounded though.Well thankfully, we do have rim protection this year!
