MBB: Duke 87, unc 70 Post-game thread

The Heels won't be out of talent next season IMO if they get their better players to stay and add some additional.

Cadeau, Ian Jackson,, and Drake Powell have talent and incoming recruit 6'9" Caleb Wilson can help in the front court.

A new coach and some favorable activity in the portal (help inside) with the nucleus above could get UNC to at least have a shot at the NCAA tournament.
Jackson and Powell need to leave after this season, before their stock drops even lower.

Ian Jackson is 99% leaving for the NBA draft. Powell is gone too if he can still be a 1st rounder (lots of mocks still have it).

Cadeau? Who knows, I could see him transferring.

Am the only one on this board who finds these recent games rather boring? I mean, it is always nice to win and, I guess, to win by big margins, but I'm finding it not very interesting basketball to watch...I can't tell if the ACC is that bad this year OR Duke is that good, but the ACC contests have been total snorefests. It worries me a little, that if Duke has to play some competitive games in MM, that they may not be fully prepared for having to fight for a victory.
Seems like you didn't watch the Wake Forest and NC State games, both within the last ten days, when seemingly overmatched teams gave our guys challenges that qualified as anything but "snorefests."

So Caleb is essentially adding nothing right now. It’s a bit harsh but reality. What you and others are saying is that this team is better off without Roach than with Roach. I 100% disagree with that statement. If Roach accepted his role, that would be a net positive for the team. That’s really all I will say on the subject going forward because I don’t want to make this a repetitive rant or derail this thread even more than it has been.
I believe Roach passed on accepting the role you describe which is why he’s not at Duke

The 4K broadcast on YouTube TV doesn’t have any commercials. It changes to a high corner camera, but you can see and hear the activities in the court.

I was a fan of the above the rim broadcast. I often mute but I can’t do that if I’m watching with other people.
On my feed, it seems to go silent during commercials, I can't hear the on-court activities

I use the "Speech in Noise"mode with my devices when the TV is playing sports with fans cheering -- football and basketball, mostly. The production, I thought, mixed in fan noise, but perhaps that's wrong.
I listen to the feed by attaching my hearing aids through bluetooth, so there isn't really the ability to adjust the dynamics of the feed. I still find that a better way to hear it all than listening through traditional hearing aid means.

I do the same but sometimes the ambient noise drowns out the announcers even in that setting. Of course, maybe it's my old damaged ears. I only know that the broadcasters can easily filter the background noise to a less intrusive level. I wish they would.
My surround sound has different settings, some seem to filter better and lower the crowd noise. the dolby isn't very good for basketball games, the 3 channel multi, i think it is, highlights the announcers more. But as I said elsewhere, unless I am watching with my wife, I bluetooth the feed.

It is sometimes silent, but I could often hear the band or pumped in music. I heard the bell that was rung for the young cancer survivor and thought, incorrectly, that it may have been the victory bell. Silence is better than seeing the same commercials repeatedly.

He was offered a reduced role -- he said no. Why are you disagreeing with us?

A nice restful game mostly, but I cringe whenever I see Foster trying to run the point, although I'm sure he is a great guy and works hard etc. He's more effective at stopping Duke's offense than most of the defenses Duke sees. I don't get why the coaching staff seems so hellbent on having him play point--they have Proctor, James and Cooper who are all better at initiating offense and 3 players should be enough for one job. Foster would be a very effective 2/shooting/off guard on a team that needs one of those more than Duke does, and of course he should do what he thinks best for himself, but if I were him I'd transfer to such a team ASAP.
I’ve mentioned a number of times this season that having him in with Sion puts primary ball handling responsibilities on Sion, which is good, and allows Foster to focus more on SG types of activities. Figure out where he’s most effective from 3pt (I’ve suggested the corner because this is the shortest distance 3pt shot, I believe, while helping most to spread open the floor), and plant him there to spread the floor and take threes. His threat as a driver isn’t strong enough right now, and it’s probably less than 1 point per possession when he tries to drive to the basket. The most beneficial part of this arrangement is that the offense is less likely to turn into the slog that it does when he runs point.

It’s clear that he continues to be a supportive and culturally additive teammate despite his on-court struggles. He’s in a funk and he’s likely better than what we’ve seen this year, and the symbiosis of his good attitude and his teammates’ good attitude will help him get through this.

Also clear that Scheyer still has faith in him. He knows that Caleb's going through a tough stretch but has said that he still believes Foster can be an important contributor this year.

Slightly, but we are at the mercy of the broadcast sound. Some arenas are better than others - like the nose dome is neve problem but Cameron always is. I can adjust my aids via an app but I can't filter all or most of the broadcast ambient noise.
When we’re playing at the Dean Dome, are you ever concerned that your hearing aids have stopped working because you can’t hear anything, such as crowd noise?

Hay-soos!! No one has said that! I said we didn't need Roach in a starting role. Roach playing 10-12 mins per game would be fine. As you would expect, under a likely similar proposal by Jon, Jeremy decided to go elsewhere.

Jackson and Powell need to leave after this season, before their stock drops even lower.
The two lessons recruits should have learned by now, given the player trajectories during the last years under Roy and Hubert's tenure:
  1. If you decide to play at UNC, make sure you enter either the draft or the portal after your first year there, and
  2. You shouldn't be deciding to play at UNC... it's a bad decision for your basketball future.
