Isaiah Evans

Exactly. Posters are saying Kon needs to come out because he’s not scoring. Even the threat of him is beneficial to our offense.
It's not a question of swapping in Evans for Kon (not that you suggested this). Kon still played 31 minutes last night, and they played together some, though Kon may have played a bit more if Evans weren't hot.

Now that Sion and Caleb are essentially splitting time at the "1", it's opened up some minutes for Evans to spell both Proctor and KK, while usurping minutes from Gillis.

Evans' off-ball, catch-and-shoot game offers a new element to our offense. But he doesn't bring the playmaking that KK does (which we sorely need - KK is now sporting a Jones-esque 3.3:1 A/TO ratio), so I doubt KK's minutes will dip much.

What a shot in the arm from Evans.
He helped lubricate the offense and was able to keep Kon and Coop from being ground down in the end game yet again..
Take the scoring relief where we can get it... Pls do it again soon and often.

This thread did wonders for getting Evan some meaningful and productive minutes in a big game.

Now, how about that Darren Harris kid?!?
That dude is an even better shooter than Evans. 8-8 3s in an early exhibition game or scrimmage I think. He needs some burn also!

I would like to see more lineups with both Kon and Isaiah together. Since opposing defenses almost always key on Kon, his gravity creates openings for everyone else.

The Kon doubters are getting louder with every game, but being guarded by the 3rd or 4th best guy on the other team every game (as opposed to drawing the primary on ball defender last year) is helping Tyrese Proctor have the best year of his career, and it’s keeping the paint more open for Cooper to do what he does.

After last night’s performance, teams are going to have closely guard Isaiah on the perimeter as well, which should open things up for Kon.

I don't see that. Kon is a very smart basketball player. Defensively, he reminds of Ryan Young. He knows where he needs to be, but he may not get there. He is solid close to the basket.

I saw Kon get 3 or 4 crucial stops defending in isolation against Auburn. He also got called for at least 1 complete bs foul (that baseline drive that he defended perfectly)

He definitely gets criticized way more than he deserves. I think his defense is good. It’s not elite, but he is not anything close to a liability there. His excellent size, strength, and IQ help a lot.

We have the #1 KenPom defense with Kon averaging 31 mpg. If he's dragging us down, it's hard to imagine where we'd be without him. (Promoted to the NBA?)

What's that mean for Isaiah? Maybe not much, but I don't think his claim to more minutes will be on the basis of better defense.

Ha, ha, nice. I think he'll get some floor time the next couple of games.

Yeah, I've def come around to this way of thinking. The advanced stats don't show he's a significant liability on defense so far, which was not what I was expecting. I think a lot of this is making sure he's matched up against the right guys for his defensive skillset.

Woo Hoo tomorrow is Isaiah Evans 18 th birthday
My surprise is I share his birthday
We both hope Duke women soccer beat UNC tomorrow night in Cary. Temperatures are predicted to be in the 30’s

I think it’s still way too early in the season to say KK is a better playmaker than Evans. Well, I guess we could say that is true in games played so far but both are freshman and while Kon came out hot, Evans could just be getting started.

I think Kon will figure out to get his shot off. They have time to show him film and offer actions to get him a good option to take a good shot.
Isaiah turns 18. I won’t say my age. I was an undergraduate with 3 coaches
Bucky Waters who was in a photo with Coach K and Elton Brand last night.
Neil McGeachy and Bill Foster.
Willie Hodge George Moses Paul Fox Dave O’Connell Terry Chili were in my class. Tate Armstrong a Junior was the top player. Moses had been in military prior to Duke. May have been the oldest Duke player ever
25 or 26.

As pointed out on one of the DBR pods, K2 is shooting and scoring better than McCain did at this point in his freshman year. And McCain didn't have defenses keyed in on stopping him. It takes some time to adjust. I'm in the camp who loves how he didn't force his shot last night and helped to get those looks for Evans.

What a game for Isaiah. The only downside is that every NBA GM was reminded of his elite shooting talent. I was feeling good about him returning next year - but he's got that longterm star potential which could earn him a first round pick.

Evans vs Gillis? In the short term I expect we continue to see both. Gillis is a better defender and has been a good shooter his entire career. This is just a slump. But at some point he has to break out...

Gillis seems to need more time and space than Evans. They’re different

Definitely. Evans and Flagg need very little space to get off their shots. Kon, Gillis, Proctor need a bit more space. And Caleb and Sion, with their low release points, need even more space.

Gillis got a lot of really good looks against Kansas. He, like Kon, just didn't knock them down.
