Isaiah Evans

What is going on with Evans and his playing time. I am assuming its his defense as I know he can get buckets.

It’s not that he’s bad, the guys ahead of him on the wing are just better, and he’s too small to play in the front court. We have a lot of talented wings.

I hope he stays one more year.

I just hope he stays past Christmas.

He could be this year's Elliot Williams. He'll earn more PT as the season progresses. We saw against Kentucky that to give Kon and Cooper a little rest and not allow the offense to become stagnant, we need another active guy on the wing who may be more dynamic than Gillis.

He'll get more time if he can get it done on the defensive end. His offense was great today, but I didn't watch his defense to see how he was on that side of the ball.

Yeah, he can light it up. Jury is still out on his defense. He can come insuring those instances where we already have good defenders in the game and need shooters to help open the floor. It will be situational.

However, Gillis’ defense and experience, along with his ability to hit 3pt at a high pct and spread defenses, is something that will continue to earn him minutes (perhaps at Evans’ expense, depending on situation and who else is in the game).

Gillis is probably a better defender, but his shot was not there today. Most of his shots were not close. Only 1-6 from behind the line is not going to cut it. Isaiah was 4 for 7 and hit shots all look good. He needs way more minutes.

He's got to be better than Gillis to earn minutes. Gillis is a better defender. And before today, Gillis was 44% from 3 on the season after shooting 47% from 3 at Purdue last season.

Evans does have the advantage of needing less space to get his shot off because of his length and high release point. So if he can come in as a fearless 40-45% shooter from deep, maybe there is a role for him when our offense needs a lift.

It sure looks like Evans is good enough to play at this level. I get why Kon is ahead of him. But he's not so far ahead that he should play 37 minutes while Evans is a healthy scratch. I'd much rather see Kon get a few more breaks while Evans gets a chance.

I’d love to see Proctor, Flagg, Evans, Knueppel, and Malauch all out there together. That would be a killer lineup!

They both are pretty dreadful defenders and pretty great bucket getters. As much as I bemoan Kon's lack of defense, he makes a ton of smart plays. I haven't seen that in Evans' admittedly limited minutes. Is that enough for 37 vs 0? I would say no, but SkyB keeps blocking me from coaching the team. ;)

I don't think that's neccessarily true. Gillis can defend more positions and doesn't need the ball to affect the game at all. I think Evans' minutes will have to come from Kon, Tyrese, Caleb, or Sion's minutes (same goes for Darren Harris). Gillis plays the 4 a lot, that's a tough assignment for Evans.

But it's a long season, and guys will likely be in and out of the lineup due to bumps and bruises, so I would expect Evans to crack the rotation at some point. There's a chance he could carve out some kind of regular role.

Kon is not great at one on one defense, but I think his team defense is pretty good.

It's not Kon who is in front of Evans for minutes. It's Gillis.

I don't see that. Kon is a very smart basketball player. Defensively, he reminds of Ryan Young. He knows where he needs to be, but he may not get there. He is solid close to the basket.
