FB (Gator Bowl): Ole Miss 52, Duke 20

I've already emailed Manny that I will suit up as back-up QB for $30,000; I mean, I played QB on my 7th grade flag football team.

I like the positivity of thinking that Duke will beat Ole Miss BUT I would NOT bet my life savings on that prediction.
You need to save your life savings for the hospital bills after you are sacked on your first passing play😊

I wouldn't say Belin is better than Maalik but there is a very good case that he is a better option at QB for this particular opponent. He's more mobile, not afraid to get hit and gets the ball out more quickly.
If Loftis ain't playing, then Belin better be afraid to get hit. Moore certainly hasn't been practicing at QB for quite awhile, so we won't be able to afford losing our starter in this game.

Is this a joke? I mean, a lot has changed since NIL, so I may be in the dark ages ... but if this isn't a joke, it's baffling to me. What would stop any key player from holding out for some extra sweet moolah at the last minute? Is there a contract? Enforceable?

Just today I read of an NFL player who was needed to go into the SF-LAR game last night, who just walked away from taking the call, even though he had suited up for the game.
So are you saying that these players, part of a 53-85 man team, with 11 players on the field at once, should or should not milk every situation for the maximum short term monetary gain?

The Devil's Den posted this video clip (don't think this was posted here yet). Manny Diaz says Henry Belin will the QB starter in the bowl game. Also addressed other interesting items... with comments on Mensah.

Perhaps it’s just me not previously remembering or paying attention, but did he grow that glorious, big ole beard very quickly?

In the video, Manny said he didn’t expect any other opt outs, other than Murphy and Loftis. (Which admittedly, are important ones).

I'm gonna predict a really good game from Henry - and an offense with a bit of juice in theirs step. I still say in that very short couple of plays versus NW that the entire offense had a bit of jump when he came in.

Belin is a redshirt sophomore this year. With Mensah (redshirt freshman) coming in, Belin could be in a backup role again next year. Somewhat surprised if he stays for next year... but that's what it's looking like for now. And "coach-speak"... Diaz says no position is guaranteed... everyone will have to compete for playing time... and the team know that. If it happens, both Belin and Mensah should provide a good QB depth chart for the team next year.

I don't tell people how to live their lives, and I don't know what I would do were I in their place.

All I can say is that as a fan, I find continuity in roster more appealing than the alternative. Also, when a player leaves the team (and school) before the end of the season, to seek greener pastures, that doesn't sit well with me - again, as a fan. Not making a moral or ethical case, though one could be made (both ways). But my level of fan interest isn't as high in an environment of almost continuous free agency. Not an issue for DBB, DFB, or any team, unless and until there are many more who also lose interest.

Just saw the guy described as the heart and soul of Ole Miss defense, Chris Paul Jr. is skipping the Gator Bowl and going pro. Maybe that will become a trend for Ole Miss players. Even if he had played still like our chances.

I agree with you here...but TBH that was NOT the impression I got from your previous post....which is why I asked for clarification...

Chris Paul Jr is also the fist of the Ole Miss defense. Had he played, I suspect that he would have tried to hit Duke where it hurts, but fortunately, the official uniform includes protective cups.

His bio indicates that he's the son of Christopher Paul Sr, but the Clarion Ledger reports that it's not THAT Chris Paul, an issue that came up a few months ago when Ole Miss played a game at Wake Forest.

Chris Paul Jr. was born on Nov. 4, 2002, when the basketball-playing Chris Paul was beginning a high school senior season in which he would win Mr. North Carolina Basketball. The Rebels’ Chris Paul Jr., as his name makes clear, is the son of a Christopher Paul Sr. — but not the Christopher Paul.

I will not shed a tear if some of his teammates join him. I’m hoping for the best from our offense, but fearing the worst, especially since we were often offensively-challenged during the year, even with our starting QB.

Yes... I also fear a massive struggle. But, our QB during the year was definitely one-dimensional... with read options and roll-outs and runs not applicable so defenses didn't have to worry about those. Plus, we now have a QB that Brian Parker (OL) said is a dual-threat QB... plus Diaz and his OC are also new so no previous tape for the Ole Miss to study. Hopeful...

Heck, I'm always hopeful. I'm a sports fan :)! But I do think a win is extremely unlikely and would be one for the ages. But yes, I'm still hopeful.

I’m also hopeful that Duke cares so much more about the game. Diaz seems a great motivator and the Rebs could mail it in.

They are going to destroy us. Let's be realistic. They were better than us even when we had our starter.

Belin might be great, but the team has been playing with Murphy all season.

I would love to be wrong.
