FB (Gator Bowl): Ole Miss 52, Duke 20

Yup. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing. The unlimited transfers and unlimited pay are a bad mix. I know that a computer science major or art major or whoever else can do it. Doesn't matter.

I know no one cares about academics, but from what school does Murphy plan on getting his degree? You know, the thing he will likely have to use to make a living?

Well, we have two quarterbacks in Belin and Loftis who showed flashes of talent last year, got recruited over, then, unlike their peers, stuck around (assuming they had other options). I am really excited to see what they can do.
His Duke transcript will be marked "incomplete."

If you are driving to the game, be sure to show your Duke colors so others on the road can give you a thumbs up!

In late December 1977, we drove to Florida with friends for a bit of sun and beach time (no football). Traffic on 95 was heavy until we got past JVille; I swear every 3rd or 4th car had a Clemson tiger paw decal on the window. We saw very few Pitt decals. Pitt clobbered Clemson 34-3 in the Gator Bowl, but we were impressed with the Clemson fan enthusiasm!

TaxSlayer Gator Bowl

Duke vs. Ole Miss
EverBank Stadium (Jacksonville, Florida)
7:30 p.m. ESPN

PERFECT!! Beats freezing the ol tuccus off in Annapolis.
Just want to reply about the weather, since I live within 2 hours of Jacksonville. It will almost certainly be chilly at night in January. Possibly downright cold. Although I know cold is relative to folks who live farther north; just don’t want people to waste time and space packing swimsuits! 😉

Be forewarned: If postgame traffic coming out of that stadium following this bowl game is anything like we typically encounter after the Florida-Georgia game, it can be a dreadful nightmare -- especially if you're trying to get back to I-95, which requires navigating a congested sea of vehicles that crawls at a glacial pace through the arteries of downtown Jacksonville. I recommend that you plan to indulge in a spell of postgame tailgating to allow time for the traffic to clear.
I was planning to take Uber to/from my hotel downtown. Is that a viable or efficient option?

Sorry, I can't answer that question, since we've never used Uber to a game. I'd be concerned about the potential delay in catching one among the crowd after the game. But FWIW, if you're staying in a downtown hotel, it's only about 1.0-1.3 miles from the principal downtown hotels to the stadium, which is about a 20-25 minute walk. That's how we usually get to and from the Florida-Georgia game. Of course, such a walk may be less practical or comfortable for a game that's played in early January instead of late October, and that won't likely end until 10:30pm instead of 7:30pm.

It's not completely apples to apples, but the family was on vacation in Florida this past summer. My nephews went to a preseason Dolphins game. The Uber there was fine, but the Uber after the game was an adventure.

Thank you. That's a very doable walk! I assume it's a safe route, especially with so many attending the game.

If Loftis doesn't play in the bowl game, is Belin the only QB left? Jordan Moore, maybe? Then wildcat on every other play.

Yes, per his agent.
Gonna be a LOT of that going on in the non playoff bowls. Again. Wonder how long the non play off bowls will even exist if this keeps up? Can those Duke fans who scooped up tickets now get a refund? Not sure what teams are playing in the Gator, but it wont' remotely resemble Duke of 2024 versus Ole miss of 2024.

At this point it looks like Ole Miss will be at fuller strength than perhaps we might have anticipated.
A Duke win under these circumstances would be a "one for the ages" type upset. Mostly, I just hope Manny has a gameplan to limit Ole Miss possessions, get a couple/few stops, and keep it respectable. Very proud of our season and would hate for the players for it to end horribly.

Assuming Mensah isn't playing for us in the bowl, if I were Belin, I would be asking for a big retention bonus right around now. Because I think there is a huge delta between him and the next option, and we don't want to humiliate ourselves. It is sad that this is how things work now, but it is what it is.

the ESPN article says Mensah will not be eligible for the bowl game.
