FB: Duke 26, UConn 21

That the line is only around 17 says something about our offense. If we can find a running game, we should cover. But I wouldn't be surprised if this looks a bit like the Elon game- dominant defense, but offense that takes awhile to find itself.

Merrimack has only been D-I FCS for a few years and are likely towards the bottom of FCS. Maryland ran and threw all over UConn for a total of 629 yards. Duke may well be a few notches down from the team that destroyed UConn 41-7 last year, but I don't see any signs that UConn has improved.

Thanks for the update. I vote we rest Jaquez to ensure he is healthy.* No need to bring him back too soon.

* I understand I don’t get a vote.
But but but ... What if the medical staff clears him to play?

Sorry, Bob, not carping at you personally. But I'm still sore at the decision to play Riley last year at FS, ahead of the normal recovery time for his injury. And when I said so, saying that it was not at all critical for him to play in that game, I was soundly thrashed here. I still, and will probably always, feel that it was a horrible decision then. And if Jaquez plays Saturday, I will feel about the same.

I agree we need to see continued improvement in the running game.

1. 59 yards versus Elon
2. 93 yards versus Northwestern
3. ?? yards versus UConn

How much improvement? UConn is giving up 186 yards per game through two games so I would like to see a lot of improvement.

My confidence in Murphy and the receiving corps is high so I expect the passing attack will be solid.
We continue to observe our esteemed Bob Green becoming a holistic savant: Both running and passing playing a role.

Dear Bob: How much running and how much passing would you like to see? [Your answer is safe with me.]

Since I'm going to be setting up our tailgate in the morning, I've been eyeing the weather all week. It's gone from a strong chance of rain earlier in the week to much less of a chance to "hellifweknow", but at least what is presumed looks good. I was not happy when I woke up this morning on the coast to torrential downpours from a developing system offshore. The nerve of scheduling football during hurricane season.
From WRAL.
Morning clouds then partly cloudy skies this afternoon with a small chance for showers that should be more confined to our southern counties. Highs in the lower-mid 80s. We continue to watch low pressure offshore that is trying to organize and it's something we will watch throughout the weekend. It it does take on tropical characteristics and acquires a name, it would be Helene.

Overnight is expected to be mostly cloudy with lows in upper 60s. To ensure that we have no rain at all, I've packed our canopy.

Duke is a 16.5 points favorite. Discuss the game here.
Game Day!

Here’s what I am looking to see today. A victory and no injuries are obvious so those two are not listed:

1. Improved offensive performance. Team needs to build off last week’s OT.
2. Effectively run the ball.
3. Play clean - no self inflicted wounds / win the turnover margin.
4. Defensive dominance - continue the chaos.

My prediction: Duke 31, UConn 9

Good luck, sorry I cannot make it. Have a great tailgate and bring home a win!!
