DWBB 2024 Off-season

And in what is likely related news, Haley Van Lith is leaving the swamp, er LSU, and is going to TCU.

Good day for TCU. They also received a commitment from Maddie Scherr from Kentucky, a senior guard who averaged 12-4-3 last season.

I don't know much about the Horned Frogs offhand, but after looking into it, I remember a little. They started well (14-0 and a #23 AP ranking) before injuries decimated the team, forcing them to cancel a pair of games because an original roster of 14 was down to 6. They held open tryouts, added a couple of players, and finished the season 21-12.

Six players started 15 or more games, only one of whom (Jaden Owens, a guard) is out of eligibility. 4 of the remaining 5 (Sedona Prince, Madison Conner, Agnes Emma-Nnopu, Una Jovanovic) are transfers, so Van Lith and Scherr should fit right in. Interestingly, their top homegrown player, rising junior Aaliyah Roberson, has a Duke connection: she's the older sister of incoming Duke freshman Arianna Roberson.

ETA - Duke is one of five P6 teams not to have anybody in the portal. Hope that continues.

Based on The Next, I count six: DePaul, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, Tennessee, and UCLA. Tennessee is the surprising one on that list, considering their coaching change.

Thanks Brevity - I appreciate the WBB updates! Are there any indications of Duke WBB engaging portal entrants/prospects for next season's roster?

Apologies if I missed something - am prone to skim discussions with greater interest in "news" than the strategizing/analysis.

The tweet I saw didn’t include DePaul, so it must have been P5 and I mis-read it. Thanks for the correction/update.

And you spoke it into existence https://www.on3.com/college/tenness...aroline-striplin-enters-ncaa-transfer-portal/

In that case, let me try speaking this into existence: I was also surprised to see that every UNC player has decided to leave the program, and incoming transfer Grace Townsend changed her mind about finishing her career in Chapel Hill.

Has it been every? I knew there were about 6 leaving but that was over a week ago. What's the latest?

Tick... tick... and someone didn't read this closely.

This is why some experts think that ChatGPT and other LLMs will take sarcastic passages, endorse them as true, propagate them throughout the web and bring about the end of humanity.

We're pretty close to that already. April Fool's Day articles have gotten picked up by Google News weeks later, and treated as the real thing. As for the end of humanity, look at a few other of today's DBR threads, and it certainly seems that way.

SBN has pretty much squelched April Fool's posts. (Did they ever catch those... Too soon?)

Toby Fournier is among the 26 players taking part in today's 2024 Jordan Brand Classic. The game starts at 4pm ET. To my knowledge, it's not televised, but can be streamed in one of three ways:

1. From the NBA.com website
2. Using the NBA app
3. On YouTube right here or embedded below

If it's like most YouTube live streams, it becomes a full game replay when it's over.

Fournier has 13 points thus far in the early 4th quarter.

Edit: They're utilizing the Elam ending and the game will end when one team reaches 110.

Welcome, Riley!

The timing of her injury is such that she may well be able to play when the season starts. All injuries are different, but six to nine months is pretty common as a recovery period for an ACL tear, so if she's on the earlier end of the that, she might be able to get enough run in the pre-season to be ready to go when the season begins. I certainly wouldn't expect her to miss all of next season, unless there's a complication of some kind (perish the thought). She seems really versatile, and has the reputation of being an unassuming, glue-type, do-all-the-little-things type of player. I really look forward to seeing her as a Blue Devil!
