DWBB 2024 Off-season

Final score: USA 102 Puerto Rico 22. Yep, 2 points in the 2nd half. Tomorrow's game against Mexico could get ugly...Puerto Rico beat them yesterday.

I'm terrible at keeping up with the FIBA events. The final game is taking place right now, and Team USA is tied at halftime with Team Canada 36-36, thanks to a Joyce Edwards 3 at the buzzer. You can watch the livestream on YouTube:

You can also follow the box score. Incoming Duke freshman Arianna Roberson is scoreless in about 5 minutes off the bench; she's recorded 1 block. 2025 recruit Jasmine Davidson (Duke is among her 6 finalists) started and has 7 points, 1 rebound, and 2 assists in about 12 minutes.

Belgium are 20 minutes away from winning their group at the women’s U-19 Eurobasket B division, and Louann is contributing. She went for 15 in the opening two-point win over Croatia, and added nine in the laugher over Albania. She has three and three assists at the half against Greece in a game Belgium leads by 24.

Louann went for 10 on 3-8 from the field (3-6 from three) and 1-2 from the line as Belgium blitzed Greece to finish the group stage at 3-0. Surprisingly, she is second on the team in rebounds, averaging five per game.

Belgium continues its unbeaten rampage through the U-20 Eurobasket B division with an 82-48 win over Great Britain. Louann with six on 2-5 from the floor (2-3 from three), two rebounds, and four assists in 20 minutes.

Belgium can clinch a spot in the semifinals with a win over Netherlands tomorrow.

Louann delivered her most complete performance of the tournament when her team needed it: seven points, four rebounds, and five assists in 25 minutes as Belgium rode a big fourth quarter to a come-from-behind eight-point win over the Netherlands.

Belgium will face Iceland in tomorrow’s semifinals.

I wonder if attendance will be up for DWB this coming season. Women’s basketball is receiving long overdue attention at all levels. The WNBA is showing higher attendance and higher TV ratings than it has seen and the effect goes well beyond games in which Caitlin Clark is playing. Will this spillover to DWB and women’s BB in the ACC generally?

I don't come across a lot of recruiting information for the Duke women, but here's something.

No. 6-ranked 2025 recruit Agot Makeer has narrowed her list to six finalists, she told On3.

Makeer, a 6-foot-1 forward from Thunder Bay, Ontario, is now considering South Carolina, Duke, Michigan State, UNC, Kentucky and UConn for her eventual landing spot...

Duke
“It’s really good with them. They’ve recruited me for about a year and a half now. I feel like I have a pretty good relationship with the coaching staff. My teammate, Toby [Fournier], is going there, too, so I feel like I have a deeper connection there. I like North Carolina and so does my family, so I feel like that’s where we are with Duke. It’s a rising team and that’s really cool.”

According to a report from On3’s Talia Goodman, five-star 2025 prospect Lara Somfai included Duke in her final three options.

Somfai, a 6-foot-4 forward from IMG Academy in Florida, currently sits as the No. 31 prospect in espnW’s HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings for the 2025 class. She represented Australia in the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup earlier this summer, and she averaged 17.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists during the five-game run...

Lawson and the Blue Devils will compete with Stanford and Connecticut for Somfai’s commitment...

Duke also remains in the hunt for Jazzy Davidson, the third-ranked player in the country.

I don't know....with NC state doing so well, I imagine a lot of people may favor supporting them. Growing fan support is tricky in NC with 4 teams so close together.

I know there's an in-season thread, but it appears that summer is not over yet.

Each national team is comprised of four athletes representing the high school graduating classes of 2024, 2025 and 2026.

The 2024 USA 3x3 Women’s U18 National Team includes Jasmine Davidson, Saniyah Hall, Arianna Roberson and Sarah Strong.

Two of those 3x3 teammates should be familiar. Sarah Strong is an incoming freshman at Connecticut, but played prep ball in the state of North Carolina and included Duke and UNC among her finalists. Jasmine Davidson is a 6-2 wing in the 2025 class and will choose a school from her 6 finalists: Connecticut, Duke, TCU, Texas, UCLA, and USC. Saniyah Hall is a 6-1 guard ranked 4th in ESPN's HoopGurlz 2026 rankings.
