Board software - Q&A for the new stuff

If you click on a highlighted thread, it will take your last read post in that thread. It is much like the "new" button in the old software.

I am finding navigation to be a ton easier on this new board. The ability to quickly see threads that have updated since your last post and see the posts in them that are new is really smooth.

Two more (on mobile, at least):

1) Clicking on a thread marked as read should take you to the last post, not the first.

2) Is there a way to add links at the top from EK to Off-Topic and vice versa. Right now it looks like two clicks are required each time.
For the 1), if you click on the timestamp for the last post it will take you directly to that last post whether there are unread messages or not. Clicking on the thread title of a thread takes you to the first post if there are no unread messages.

That was part of the old board and is gone

In the upper right hand corner of my screen there is a button with a bell symbol for alerts. When I logged in, it had a red circle indicating that I had 5 new alerts. Clicking on the button showed me alerts informing me that I had earned 5 "trophies" worth 28 points. Apparently, the new software sees our previous body of work and rendered judgment during the conversion process. Three of those trophies and 16 of those points were participation trophies, e.g. for making more than 100 posts. However, the rest are qualitative and suggest that my posting is not inapt or unpromising. They are some solace for the loss of sporks.

Curious how Chat is affected. Is there affiliated software that'll allow it to still go, and if so, can it filter out the negativity?

I think the thread link is bolded... assuming the entire thread was previously already read.
Yes, a thread with unread messages will show up in bold. Clicking on that bolded title will take you to your first unread message.

The migration didn't move forward your current read status. Threads you read before the migration will show as unread. You can mark the entire board as read with the button near the top, or can do them one by one. (I marked 'em all - couldn't imagine trying to go through that many.)

Threads more than (I think) a year old will automatically be marked as "read".

Also if you mark the entire forum as "read" with that button/link, the newest post (date/time) of any thread will be shown on the right. After marking the entire forum as "read", only need to look at posts after sometime on Thursday when the board went down to see what you might have missed. And that wasn't much, since the the board was "down"... I realized this later... duh:cool:

Great job, but I have one concern. What if want to change my handle before 4745? Zager and Evans told me my posts will all come from the pill I took today. I might want to retire what little good there is left in my name before that happens.

Thank you! I was worried initially because I noticed it didn’t remember my read status. But it makes total sense now. As an “old” person, sometimes it takes a little effort to acquire familiarity with a new system, but I think it looks great!

Well, you may be old, but at least you’re not too ol . . .

Um . . .

Never mind

We'll be doing a board software conversion any time now, somewhat at the whim of our hosting service. It'll be bare-bones to start with, but (in theory) everyone's login and password should convert over along with all the messages. If you find yourself locked out, email me at jk4dbr@gmail.com and I'll help get it sorted.

Please be patient with any chaos that may ensue when the cutover happens.

thanks,

How do I get to the off topic board? My saved link takes me to the main board as does the saved link for this one.

At the top or bottom of this page, click “Main Category” on the list (to the left of the bolded “Elizabeth King Forum”) and then you will get the option of both boards. I *think* they are working on a better shortcut or to return the old saved spots to re-route to the new platform.

I am similarly age-enhanced, and I am pretty impressed at how well this migration is sitting with me. I think the board mavens did a stellar job at keeping as much of the old board navigation functionality as they did.

Nice job .
One quick question; How do I get back to the Main (front page)?
When I click home, it takes me back to the the home forums page (not back to the DBR home)
Did I miss something ( very possible….😊)
