Board software - Q&A for the new stuff

I tried searching for this but didn't see anything.

I'm assuming nothing can be done about the ads?
That sounds like your computer or browser has some kind of adware installed. I access this from three different computers and my phone, and have never seen an ad.

Where are you seeing ads? So far, I have been blissfully unaware that this site shows any ads at all.
Yeah and I even have the site whitelisted with uBlock Origin to show ads and don't block them on the phone for this site either. I get them on the main site from time to time but not the boards.

We don't currently have ads running on the boards, either desktop or mobile (though we may someday). Perhaps adware in your browser?

Weird. On my iPhone, I see nothing. I'll check when I'm back in front of my computer.
Download and install this on your PC. It sounds like you will find a few things. This is a great free program. I use it often on my client's computers that I'm cleaning up.

Also, your "ads" can be as simple as that you hit the "allow" button instead of "block" from websites asking if you'd like to receive notifications. I don't think DBR has those, though.

Syracusefan.com and The Boneyard (UConn) also use XenForo.

...

A few other college sports forums that use XenForo:

Rupp Rafters (Kentucky) -- and all of the Rivals-branded forums, it seems

AllBuffs (Colorado)
GatorChatter (Florida)
Hawkeye Nation (Iowa)
HornSports (Texas)
OGBoards (Wake Forest)
RideEmCowboys (Oklahoma State)
StingTalk and GTSwarm (Georgia Tech)
TideFans (Alabama)
VolNation (Tennessee)
I went back and re-visited some of these sites that use the same board hosting platform, and I notice that all I hit have some sort of banner or header that highlights the purpose of the board. Is there a plan in place to set up something for this board as well, to highlight to all and sundry that they have reached DBR? I apologize if it has been discussed and I missed it.

At some point today the banner/top menu of this page became a darker blue with yellow lettering. It's nice. Now it looks less like a Kentucky site and more like a Michigan site. I'm sure scottdude8 is pleased.

The links have also gone to a slightly darker shade of blue. For example, there's a Joe Lunardi bobblehead. (Nod if you think this is a bad idea.)

I hope this means that we get a header that says "Duke Basketball Report" or at least "DBR" soon. Also looking forward to hearing any progress about poll and chat capabilities. Football season is not that far away.

I'm trying as best I can. The way this software uses colors is different than I would have programmed it. for example, I thought I was changing the highlight color to something visible, but I managed to change the text on the menus. There's no ability to test on a separate site and reveal something gorgeous, so bear with me! This is NOT my favorite way of working!

Appreciate the effort. Personally I like it and the darker colors are easier for me to read and less strain on my eyes.

It's looking really good to me today, thanks for your efforts!

So, the hosting platform doesn't provide some sort of staging area for testing iterative changes before rolling them out for mass consumption? Not a very nice feechur.

Thanks for the kudos, everyone!

Kdogg, I'm looking into a dark mode style and an alternate that is something different -- still dark text on a light background, but, I dunno..."different." Haven't fully fleshed it out what "different" is yet. (Clearly I haven't figured out how to get the default style to do what I want yet, so "different" is way on down the line.)

And yeah, 75Crazie, this newfangled software doesn't have a staging area. We've always had a separate test board so I can play and figure things out, then roll it out to the live board. I don't have that with this new software!

It takes a lot longer for me to get up the courage to implement a change because I know I have to be able to back it out *quickly* if it doesn't work like I thought it would. Rest assured that I am reading these comments and trying to implement all of the suggestions as quickly as I can, but I don't want to do something that takes the boards down or makes them unreadable.
