Blue Devils in the NBA 2024-2025

I am skeptical that Cam will ever suit up for the Hornets. Would not be surprised if he’s released or bought out.
I agree with this. The handwriting has been on the wall for a while. I believe his time in LA was a last-chance move for him, and he didn't take advantage. I'm thinking overseas if he really wants to play long term. Sad, as he was deemed the one in that recruiting class with Zion and RJ to actually have the NBA scouts eyes early on (before his freshman year).

Cam has made about $25 mil in his career... I wish we all could have as disappointing a career as that ;)

That said, he never quite figured out how to be more effective at the NBA level. I really thought that as he matured he would get there. I was thrilled when the Hawks drafted him.

Then again, the writing was on the wall when he was at Duke. I recall being frustrated at how much he would sometimes fade into the background at Duke and his shooting was never what we expected it to be. When that carried over to the NBA I suppose none of us should have been all that surprised.

I agree that he is a buyout candidate. I think Tre and Bagley are too. Sadly, I don't really think any of these guys fit very much into their new team's plans.

Marvin was in street clothes for Wizards/ Hornets earlier this week. At this point I think he’s just a contract to be moved around. Which is really a shame as I thought he had a very high NBA ceiling. Like Reddish, though, he’s never developed a reliable shot, and unlike Reddish he’s not a plus defender.

Tre is making $9 million this year and will be an unrestricted free agent in the off season. I agree he doesn't have a clear role with the Bulls, but I don't see why he would agree to a buyout unless he has promise of a good landing spot.

Regardless, I'd be surprised if Tre doesn't find a NBA home moving forward. He profiles a lot like Tyus as a competent, safe backup point guard. Guys like that are useful.

Ummm, he does not get to "agree" to a buyout. The team just says, "here is the rest of the salary you are owed. You are free to go do whatever you want."

It would be a move to clear roster space by Chicago as I believe they have one too many contracts at the moment. Teams often buy out a vet acquired in a trade that they have no intention of playing/keeping.

I’m thrilled for Mark and I love the fit but man as a Hornets fan it’s absolutely frustrating. You get the feeling that our team is nothing but a farm for other teams to grab guys every couple of years. Mark was easily our 2nd best player and he still hasn’t played a full season of games. The Lakers got themselves a steal of a center who can anchor them for the next decade (probably unlikely due to health but we shall see)

And the guy to have a DNP in the Elite Eight vs Michigan State in 2019. Coach K didn't seem pleased.

Minor correction: that was in the Sweet Sixteen against Virginia Tech.
You are correct. Thanks for the follow-up.

Cam did play 37 minutes vs the Spartans and scored 8 points. As far as Coach K's reaction, it was just my opinion that he was disappointed with Cam compared to what Zion and RJ contributed that year. He's probably not the only coach who felt Cam could have delivered more.

Ummm, yes he does? A "buyout" is when a player and team negotiate an early termination of the player's contract, with the player agreeing to take a haircut on his otherwise guaranteed money in exchange for being able to essentially enter free agency early.

The Bulls could waive Tre, which would leave them on the hook for his guaranteed money if no other team claims him. Maybe that's what you meant.

Tre practiced with the Bulls today. He was interviewed by local TV and said he looked forward to learning the system and contributing. He said his initial impressions were that the team wants to play fast. Pretty standard fair. Bulls are in San Francisco tomorrow night, so I will be curious to see if and how much run Tre gets. As Jason E. has stated throughout this thread, the Bulls are heavy at the guard position, so we will see if he sticks around.

I’d be more excited about this if Allen wasn’t among my least favorite Duke players, or if this didn’t demonstrate the absurdities of running the clock in the NBA, but give credit where it’s due …

Grayson is one of my favorite Duke players. How do you feel about Christian Laettner? I'll always be grateful for Grayson against Wisconsin in the Final Four and Christian, well he's probably my all-time favorite.

GoDuke!

I doubt Duke wins the Natty in 2015 without Grayson's inspired play in the tourney up to the Finals, but definitely in the Finals. Hanging banners curries a lot of favor in my book...

it would not be totally crazy to say that Cam's career peaked with his very first regular season game vs Kentucky. (That team sure seemed to peak that particular day).
