I'm avoiding the news, watching Comedy Central instead, probably will be for foreseeable future. Desi Lydic noted that the U.S. elected a felon for President before it elected a woman.
LOL, I'm not sure watching The Daily Show counts as avoiding the news. Stick with South Park! ;)

Our country's track record is not that great. We elected a felon (Trump) and a draft dodger (Clinton and Trump).
FIFY

I keep coming back to the global anti incumbent phenomenon, and the fact that the last 3 US presidential elections voted out incumbents. Given that we live in an algorithm driven, post facts world, and that anger and fear sells and drives that algorithm, I would bet that the electorate stays angry and continues to vote out incumbents. Maybe I’m being overly pessimistic but it’s hard for me to image a unified America right now so we may be stuck in this cycle for a long time.

just my .02 worth......plain and simple......you can dig into the demographics and the ins and outs of the campaign strategies, but the fact is:

women are 0-2 in the natty........and that's how it's gonna be for long past our lifetime....
100%. Hope not on the last part. Also Trump beat another well-qualified women in the Republican primary.

A friend (female) posted the following: "There is no woman good enough and no man bad enough...this is America.".

I'd feel bad for them, except a majority of white women voted for Trump...for the 3rd straight election. I guess I should be happy to know what the boundaries are in my interactions with them???

None of us knows what will happen during the next 4 years. Let's hope and pray for the best.
I have thought long and hard about how or whether to respond to this post. I can't find the right words to convey the bulk of what I want to say in the length of a reasonable message board post, so I will say only this: I am sad that "hope and pray" is the best suggestion that can be mustered. I used to have a lot more confidence in my country's future than that.

“I can’t understand why Dems lost support among Latinos and urban Blacks,” everyone says as food, furniture, cars, gas and rent prices increased 30-50% from 2020-2024. “But the other issues are more important” say posters making 3-10X what the average Latino or urban Black makes. “It's racism and sexism” say many ignoring Biden’s historically low favorability ratings.

Disagree with you here. I'm highly confident we'll see a woman president in my lifetime (and I'm in my late 60's now). The problem is the Dems need to come up with better candidates (whether male or female) and a better platform. It reminds me a little in the early 1980's when Coach K first became the Duke men's head BB coach. He didn't have much talent on those teams and had very mediocre records in his first few years (and, as we know, there was talk of firing him). It wasn't until he started to recruit better players (thank you, Johnny Dawkins!) that he turned Duke into a national BB powerhouse. The Democrats need to do the same thing - recruit better players. Others may disagree, but I thought both Hillary and Kamala were very weak candidates (and I voted for both of them) - the fact that they both lost to Donald Trump speaks volumes.
I mean......where is the American "Margaret Thatcher"?
I actually think the first woman president will be a moderate Republican (Nikki Haley? Although I'm not a huge fan of hers)

We’re sexist, racist and stupid but nobody’s perfect
Just to update, @Steven43 is a man of his word. He called me last week to settle our bet, and my pie is scheduled to arrive on Wednesday. Thanks Steven!

JK thanks for giving me another chance on DBR. It's a wonderful site made up of truly incredible and brilliant people. It's not that I voted for a different candidate or have different political views. I've just come to realize that I don't fit into this community. JK please completely deactivate my richardjackson199 account and my wife's beergoddess account.

I wish all of you the best in life.

Among many women I know, they take their role as creators of life seriously and belive the most basic human right is the right to be born. They would never vote for someone (Harris/Walz) that thinks abortion at 40 weeks should be legal.

They view trump as an imperfect person who unfortunately is the person they have to support to reduce what they see as an unacceptable practice. They don't like Trump, but they like non-medical abortion even less.

The problem with a two party system is you have to pick one and you are voting for the good and the bad. The lesser of two evils and all that.

They would have happily support Haley, and from the ones that I know how they voted in the primary, they did.

I mean, how often is "non medical" abortion after 40 weeks happening?

Period!!

I think that’s what the kids still say

So what’s their views on male masturbation and celibacy among women of child-bearing age? Those sperm and eggs were all potential children.

Please stop with the fake/alternative facts. This is a Duke board, we have standards. The Roe limitation was at around 24 weeks.

Sigh, here is that term "moderate" again. Let's be real clear, Nikki Haley is most definitely NOT a moderate. She's not radical as Trump is in terms of foreign policy and views on NATO, but she's pretty far right otherwise. And she has publicly acknowledged that climate change is man-made. Though she has opposed every proposed measure to combat it.

She's called herself a "union buster". She has said Florida's "don't say gay" law doesn't go far enough. She has supported the initiatives of the Moms for Liberty folks. She has said she wants to raise taxes on green energy companies. She has said should sign a 6 week abortion ban if voters voted for it. When she was in the state legislature she voted to end abortion coverage for rape and incest victims in the state health plan for employees. She's made unsupported claims linking the increase in suicidal thoughts among girls with a grossly exaggerated issue of trans athletes. Remember her comment a while back that the civil wars based on "states rights" rather than slavery as a part of her assertion that the United States has "never been a racist country". Sure she did walk that back, but still gives you a clear idea of her ingrained worldview. I'm not here to debate that these stances are right or wrong. But these are the things she believes and it's hard to argue these are moderate.

I think the ONLY reason that people tend to refer to Nikki as a moderate is because she has said that Trump is wrong that the 2020 election was stolen. That's it. That's the bar. And this combined with the fact that she is a woman is why she lost the Republican nomination. And even her commitment to that point is subordinate to her commitment to the party.

Yes, in that it had to be legal prior to viability, but could be legal until 40 weeks as each state decides.

That is the standard under Roe.

They would think you don't respect their opinion and beliefs and that your wisdoms are ridiculous.

A few are against IVF on the principal that live behind at conception, but would be more ok with procedure of embryo adoption was practiced instead of destroying unwanted embyros.
