2024-25 Announcer Thread

I hope Dickie V doesn't over do it on his first assignment in years. CA should just be quiet until he's needed. V did more for CBB and he should be given the utmost respect. If CA tries to outdo V- I'll mute.

I will guess that CA will defer to Dickie V.
I think CA is going to suck up to Dickie V the whole game. Dickie V deserves praise (I am hot and cold on him but admire his passion and what he has done for the game), but the focus should be on the game and not CA sucking up. I don't know why they are doing a three man booth for this. If Vitale tires or whatever else, OB is experienced enough that he could carry it on his own. Between useless sideline reporters and paying for unnecessary three man booths, among other things, it is amazing how much money ESPN throws away.

Watching Duke v Clemson, I had to take out my phone app to find out the foul situation. Too many turnovers with announcers rambling on about something not game related, and not covering the game at all. Just awful.
I've long since given up on announcers telling us what a whistle was for. I open the stat link for all games.

And boyoboy did he ever - Vitale was clearly uncomfortable with it several times.

That said, it was awesome to hear Dickie V again. I know his schlock is annoying, and he provides very little in the way of actual analysis, but he has been a fantastic ambassador for college basketball and seems to be a heckuva good human being. Seeing him get emotional in the 1st half… I mean, geez.

I am one of those who complains about CA the most. But I didn't think he was that bad tonight. Because unlike most other games, this was generally not about him.

It was great to have Vitale back. He is a legend who deserves to be honored.

That being said, Vitale's return should have been a less competitive game. I know Clemson wasn't ranked but anyone who remotely follows basketball knew there was a decent chance this would be a competitive game that required the announcers to be focused on the game on the court.

While he's not my favorite announcer .for what he's been through at his age . As a human being in what he has done .I'm good with him announcing any game .Burke, bilas and Dan Shulman are my favorites.

Corey Alexander was there as a "motor mouth" to ease Vitale through the understandable rough spots. He did a really good job, I thought.

With a three-man booth, you'd think at least one of them might mention what the call on the floor was for. Several (OK, a lot of) times I had no idea what the refs actually called. I'd be OK with Dickie V lovefest, as long as they don't stop covering the game in the meantime. I'll never know why announcers think that their drivel is more important than what is happening on the floor.

Agree 100%. Also at those moments the camera often went to coaches or crowd shots rather than showing the refs making their call or the teams reacting to the call. There were 6 or 8 times where it went 10-20 seconds before the announcers described what had happened or who had the ball.

Two point game between the two best teams in the conference and Vitale thinks that's the time to ask Corey his thoughts on the transfer portal and NIL.

Dick Vitale is by all accounts a good man, has done a ton of fundraising for cancer research, and I'm glad he's healthy and able to work again. Now I will go back to wishing he would retire.

Hubie Brown last game
Dick Vitale came back and praised Hubie
He is the absolute best
Chick Hearn and Hubie Brown are the pinnacle of basketball broadcasting
