2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season General Discussion

I haven't paid much attention to the season yet, but a quick scan of the Top 25 shows a lot of multiple loss teams in the early few weeks. What happened to the era of 23 straight wins to start a season ?

Things keep getting worse for UConn. Not only did they lose badly to Dayton, but Alex Karaban hit his head on the floor late in the game and was taken to the hospital. Fortunately, it sounds like he's going to be okay. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ot...ing-head-injury-in-loss-to-dayton/ar-AA1uUvYg
a horror start for the huskies. They did have some stretches yesterday when you could start to see some of their sets coming together on the offensive end, which is somewhat impressive given the turnover....but they cannot get out of their own way on the defensive end. Their closeouts are atrocious, and they are currently in the bottom 25 in terms of fouling.

Without the point guards being able to find Samson Johnson as capably as they could last year for easy buckets, he's turned into a great big "0" on both ends of the floor. Mahaney looks like a bust so far....he's not able to execute Hurley's offense and cannot play defense worth a lick. Diarra is not demonstrating the leadership you'd expect at PG.

I expect there will be some retooling, and we wlil see much more Nowell and Reed moving forward.

Yeah, I was at one of the early season cupcake games at Gampel and it’s super clear that Johnson is very limited. I’d be shocked if Tarris Reed hasn’t taken his spot in the starting lineup when they return to the mainland. The reverse is true for the experienced returner/incoming transfer battle at the point… Hassan Diarra is clearly better than Mahaney right now.

Just like we’re wringing our hands about Sion vs Caleb and whether Evans should be playing, I’d bet money the UConn boards are having a much bigger meltdown about their own position battles.

Yeah, that's why I don't understand how folks are so down on this team's potential. There's not a dominant team out there, even through a handful of game. I think there's plenty of runway for Duke to be a two seed or a one seed. Nothing is settled.

Settled! Thanksgiving isn’t even over yet! Agree w you we are far, far away from knowing anything about how March will look.

Wow, just saw the UConn loss. Maybe this will take more wind out of the sails of "is Jon really the best coach for our program?" crowd... That's three losses by the Huskies in games where they were clear favorites. Maintaining year in and year out excellence is hard.

Agree with both posts ^ re UL. Early season they look like ACC top 4, and not necessarily #4. They are experienced, deep, quick, guard-oriented. Following robed deity ^, I’m sure they and the Yum crowd will be sky-high for their ACC home opener. They’ll also have one more prep day than our guys.
