2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season General Discussion

Horrible last sequence from MSU. Really bad.
Well, Carolina can’t play defense, so MSU tried to show them how it’s done by having their own guy run into the ballhandler and steal it from him, with less than 2 seconds left in the game. You cannot make this stuff up.

Was it Dan Hurley who made this suggestion? Asking because I hadn’t heard this.
no lol. regular sentiment on their boards, though....much like there is sentiment from time to time here that people are silly for picking schools other than duke.

With what appears to be a proliferation of 5-out, or at least 4-out-1-in, offenses this season, it seems likely that Davis will gradually play Powell and Jackson big minutes. I’ll guess that those 2 will share the 4-out spots with Davis, Trimble, and Cadeau, leaving Withers and one of Lubin/Washington to split the 40 minutes at the 5.

They’ll have to gang-rebound anyway, so in many/most situations, Davis may simply be forced to give up a few rebounds in favor of yet more speed and athleticism. The Heels have to score lots of points, and having 2 of their bigs on the court for major minutes hurts the flow of their frenetic O. Moreover, playing Powell and Jackson significant minutes gives each of the 3 guards just a bit more rest.

Cade Tyson isn’t a 4 and is way behind Powell and Jackson.

UNC still gets Alabama next week....that's gonna be a tough game.
Just checked and of course they get to play in Chapel Hill the first two years of this new challenge for absolutely no good reason.

In other ACC news, this tough stretch just got one game longer - Duke follows Auburn with a trip to play Louisville, who improved to 4-1 with a blowout win over No. 14 Indiana to begin Battle 4 Atlantis. That's gonna be a tough one.

Heels have a real problem that doesn't seem to have an obvious solution. Their bigs are just not good right now. They breakout for Washington hasn't come. Withers is a decent role player, but he was asked to play a bunch of minutes at the 5 last night. Lubin is okay, but not a true center either. Tyson looks like a complete miss - a projected starter who can't get on the floor.

The result is a team that can't rebound and can't guard. Michigan State has looked mediocre, and their guards got to the basket at will. They are down to 61 in KenPom defense.

The guards are good. They can run, drive, and shoot. But you can only play so many guards/wings at the same time. What they need is for Powell to emerge as their stretch 4, but again, I'm not sure that solves their defensive issues.

The good news for Duke is that for the rest of the season we don’t play any more teams that start with the letter ‘K’.
