2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season General Discussion

Auburn says "hi"
I know everyone sees Auburn as a juggernaut right now, but I’m having flashbacks to our 2011 team that won a great Maui tourney, came home to play in the road at Ohio State in the Big Ten ACC challenge, and got absolutely wrecked (I know, I was there for The Chronicle, haha). After the game K said his squad was running on fumes. We could be getting the Tigers at the perfect time.

Our guys should be really dialed in to redeem themselves after Kansas. I don't expect we will spot them a 13 point lead in the first 5 minutes.

Auburn will have had a full week’s rest by the time they play us (and we have a game this Friday, hopefully to work out some of the kinks).

Yeah, and Duke had 6 days after the 2011 Maui Invitational before they played at Ohio State. So either that 7th day is the difference between running on fumes or not, or Coach K was engaging in some coach-speak back then.

I mean, it takes me days to recover from a conference when I have to travel just a few time zones… so something tells me it might take a bit longer to do so after playing three high level basketball games in three days. It’ll also be Auburn’s first true road game, something that ALWAYS causes trouble. Who knows what will happen, but there’s a lot of secondary factors that one would thing go our way.

So... players need more than 6 days recovery time from the Maui Invitational, but at the same time they should keep playing 35-40 minutes per game because they're youthful, or something? Where exactly are we drawing this line?

It's okay to not regurgitate the Duke party line here. I hope Auburn loses next week for the reasons you've stated, but if Bruce Pearl says something similar in his postgame comments, we would call him out.

(I'm not saying that we need to be confrontational toward Duke coaches. Sometimes you just roll your eyes and move on.)

I think so to. So will Illinois but we need that Gonzaga level win we had in K's last year. It also looks like Pittsburgh is good this year and we have them at home.
Yeah, I think Pitt might be better than they were last year, and they really enjoyed their visit to Cameron last year.

And Kerlina State?

Gee, I am exhausted after dinner. By the way, where has Fork Fondler gone?
