Who Stays, Who Goes

This might be a silly question, but might there be any meaning behind the order that DBR is posting the articles about the season reviews of our players?

Hypothetical here ...

Suppose a coach tells a player, "Look, you're not likely to get playing time next year," but the player says, "I understand, but I intend to stay and finish my degree."

I recall Colorado football players being given the option to stay *with a scholarship* when Coach Prime came in and cleared house.

Given that the NCAA now has *roster* limits but not *scholarship* limits, I guess this is still the case?

At Duke, it'd probably come up very rarely. There really isn't a scholarship player at Duke who can't play pro *somewhere*, but if they take a year off from competitive basketball, that might be a problem.

If scholarship player eligible returned and every committ came how many players is that ?

Including the guys we fully expect to go pro? It would be 14:

Maluach
Ngongba
Brown
Flagg
Cam Boozer
Sheffield
Khamenia
Knueppel
Henderson
Evans
Harris
Proctor
Foster
Cayden Boozer

If you take out the guys who are sure-fire first round picks, it's 11.

I seem to recall a time Duke said they honored scholarships even if an athlete no longer played. I don't know if that's still the case.

I'm not sure one way or the other about Ament, even ignoring the quiet Hoops Summit performance. He's not super athletic/explosive, and he's really skinny. And I'm not sure of the positional fit with Boozer/Brown/Ngongba as I'm not convinced he can defend as essentially the 3 man.

On the other hand, he's one of the highest-rated prospects, so clearly he's very talented. I just wonder about the fit. Again, I'll trust the staff to make the right call. It just feels like a weird fit.

I'm also not sold on Ament's fit. It seems like his greatest value is shot creation and spot up shooting, but he is neither a guard nor is he a big. Assuming we have Slim, Cam, Shelton, and Nick, that's 4 other guys who are neither guards nor true centers. I guess Cam can play some minutes at the 5, but I'd prefer more rim protection at that spot.

Watching his film, I'm also extremely skeptical of his defense and motor. I dunno. I'm just not the biggest fan. I believe the scouts that his eventual ceiling is awesome, but for next season, I'd rather get an older hustle/glue guy from the portal. We probably do need another shooter, but I'd prefer a guard/ ball handler for that.

Agreed. Feels like much of his upside will be in the NBA. If we're building around Cam like we did around Coop, Ament doesn't feel like the guy, especially if he's in the $4M range, which could get us a couple of starter quality veterans who are potentially better fits.

I'm curious if Ament now pushing his decision out is due to any hesitance on Jon's part.
