NFL 2024-25 General Discussion

My Buccaneers are gonna mess around and give the stinking Falcons the NFC South title, and of course miss the postseason. When I saw that it was the Saints that the Bucs would play at the end of the season I knew we were in trouble. They’re the one team that always gives us problems, no matter the record.

Go Carolina!

Bucs win! Mike Evan’s ties Rice’s 11 season 1000 yard receiving record on the last play of the game to boot!
It’s riding the sports wave with SD time!

Wait….what are the other reasons? And you’d better not say Taylor Swift, because that’s one of the main reasons to ❤️ the Chiefs.
I don't get Duke fans reflexively hating other successful teams. If I hate a team it is because I absolutely abhor ownership or I really dislike a player or 2. Honestly I don't really hate any team at the college or pro sports level other than the Yankees. (Steinbrenner) and I sort of passively root against the Cowboys (Jerry).

I don’t like the overexposure (commercials for sure), their luck and their success. Also, have an obnoxious fan on my street.

The beauty of fandom.

The Cowboys' smug "America's team" attitude just reeks too much of unc. I've always disliked them, irrationally or not.

I don’t think they’ve held legitimate claim to that in twenty plus years.

You also know the saying about the old stadium, right? Had the roof as it was so God could watch the Cowboys?

What’s to hate about that?!?!

I've always sort of actively rooted against the Cowboys.

I guess the millions of $$$ will help soften the blow for him. It didn't exactly work out for the Giants either. I suspect that makes him smile at least occasionally...
Oh definitely yes. I think it's because he was very polite to this tiresome old lady at the FF in 2015 as we both stood in a beer line. He didn't deserve to get dumped on by the giant but he'll be ok, you're so right.

I find the Chiefs to be a pretty likable team. That was true before Taylor/Travis and even more so now. When you win 4 Super Bowls, that's not overexposure though, it's just cashing in.

The Cowboys, Yankees and UNCheat are the 3 franchises that just cause hate. The trifecta of d-bags. 3 of a kind $$$

I've always sort of actively rooted against the Cowboys.

Good on you rsvman HTTC

If the Commanders can't win it this year I hope the Lions can (they are just the best story but all the injuries may catch up with them). Next up for me, is the Chiefs....because of all the backlash to their success I'd be OK with them winning just to stick to the haters. Outside of the 3 teams listed above, we can really do without the hate.

I hate Jerry Jones so I pull against them. But I grew up a Cowboys fan because kids are inveterate front runners and I loved Tony Dorsett and Rodger Staubach. But Jerry is pretty troubling. Although if one delves very deeply into the billionaires who own sports franchises, there aren't a ton of good people.
Yes, I liked Jerry Richardson, until I didn't.

GoDuke!

That’s a pretty funny comment; made me laugh.

Yes, Southern is the eternal pessimist. But he’s also a very positive person at heart. I don’t know how those two things go together, but somehow they do.

Keep it up, Southern. You make this board more lively and fun. 😊
Just staying in character. Some get that and some don't.

I try not to take myself too seriously on message boards. For me it's about having a good time and enjoying the online community.

You're a good egg as well, Steven.

Not sure where to begin about what feels like the inevitable annual implosion of the Steelers season. What started out so well, where they were exceeding all expectations has come crashing to earth when everyone new was the December gauntlet (Beagles/Ratbirds/KC/Bungles). They reverted back to the dreadful Matt Canada offense. Having thrown away the chance at a home playoff game, they now have to go back to Baltimore (tix surprisingly affordable for a playoff game). I am not even tempted. Last weekend, I went back to the Auld Sod to visit Mama and Papa Turk, and found that one of my Young Turks and his girlfriend were going to the Steelers game. I told them I would rather not turn into a popsicle watching boring football in a meaningless game, and instead opted to watch the surprisingly frisky Pitt Panthers host the Stanford Cardinal (whatever that is), plenty of good seats available as the students were out on break. I got back home in time to watch the second half of the Steelers fiasco.

So driving back on Sunday, I listened to one of the sports yakkers trying to fill air time with "Why shouldn't the Steelers try to trade Mike Tomlin?" ("Well, the man has a no-trade clause in his contract, so that's moot, no?") The quarterback situation is still a mess. Russ isn't going to get paid starters money, and I am guessing the next QB will come from someplace else.

So it's entirely possible that the Steelers could steal this one somehow, because Harbaugh's gonna Harbaugh sooner or later. So I will hang on until the scoreboard reads 0:00, and then see where to shift my allegiances. I'm feeling an inexplicable pull towards Bills Mafia; for some reason, I don't trust the Beagles. With Darth Hoodie gone until next fall, I guess I need to find teams to root against, and we'll start with the Chefs.

OK, that was a bit rambling and long-winded. I'm tired of freezing my Winnebago off, and can't wait to go someplace warmer (hopefully before the ACC tourney).
