NFL 2024-25 General Discussion

Bills tend to have the Chiefs number during the regular season, but then they misplace it during the playoffs.
Yeah, as I was showing my wife the highlights of how the game played out — and I had to really work at coercing her to stop looking at her iPad for a few moments because she was doing doctor stuff, as usual — I was trying to explain how Chiefs-Bills has become the greatest rivalry in the NFL.

She was like “Oh really? Bigger than Cowboys-49ers? How could that be?”

Steve: “Honey, that was over 25 years ago, unfortunately. Anyway, look at this insane run by Josh Allen on 4th and 2. The Bills were only ahead by 2 points at that moment, and if they didn’t make the first down the Chiefs would have only had to go maybe 30 yards or so to be able to kick the game-winning field goal, which probably would have given Southern an aneurysm.”

Wife: “Southern? You know a guy named Southern?”

Steve: “Well, that’s not his actual name. That’s just what he goes by on the Duke site that I frequent.”

Wife: rolls eyes “You mean, the one that you waste so much time on making stupid comments that don’t really matter?“

Steve: “You don’t understand. The folks on the Duke site are really smart about a lot of different topics. You should have respect for these people. After all, you graduated from Duke medical school.”

Wife: “Yeah, but I thought this was a Duke sports site. Can’t just anyone comment on that site? Like you, for example. You’re not a Duke grad.”

Steve: “Honey, that’s beside the point. I’m telling you, there are a ton of really smart people who post on DBR.”

Wife: “DBR? So you even have a nickname for this silly site?” as she laughs and goes back to her iPad.

Steve: “And by the way, Southern is one of the two guys with whom I lost a pie bet on the presidential election. He chose the Mountain Berry Crumb and said it was delicious. Hey, maybe we should order a pie for ourselves!”

Wife: “Why don’t you just bake one? Erika just gave you a box of Granny Smith apples that she picked.”

Steve: “Yeah, but I don’t know how to make pie crust.”

Wife: “Why don’t you ask Kara (our neighbor) to do it, since you say she’s so good at everything.”

Steve: 😮

You lost me here, otherwise pretty solid scene.

A question for one of the Chief fans, it looks like Pacheco will be returning to the field maybe as early as this week. What does that do for Kareen Hunt's playing time? I have Pacheco on IR on a couple of my fantasy teams and I'd like to know if I should drop Hunt or stash him on my bench? I think there's a lady in Kansas that's a knowledgeable Chief fan on this board. ;)

Thanks and GoDuke!

I feel like this is a deep-cut Easter egg from a discussion on the now-closed election thread.
Kudos, my perceptive friend; your comment had me laughing out loud! 😂

And yeah, I’ve got to walk a very fine line every day of my life since my neighbor is beautiful, multi-talented and basically just awesome. And to make things even “worse” — so to speak — we happen to be very close. But believe it or not my wife is actually on an even higher level. Why she chose me is one of life’s great mysteries. 😉

I think maybe god is forcing me to earn my good fortune by putting me in this Mary Magdalene-esque situation. I will remain resolute in the face of temptation!

As things are shaping up I think we’re going to have some very exciting and fun playoff games, particularly in the AFC. Obviously, we’ve got Kansas City and Buffalo to look forward to. But we’ve also got Pittsburgh, Baltimore, the LA Chargers and maybe even Houston. I think all of those teams could make some serious noise.

And in the NFC we’ve got Detroit looking like a beast while also having a very solid team in Minnesota, a talented young Packers team, a dangerous Washington with an incredible rookie talent at QB (Daniels), and all four teams in the NFC West are frisky. Oh, and the Cowboys might even make a run.

Okay, forget that last part. 😢

I think I need to put this post in the “Wgat are you watching” thread. This is like an English speaking telenovela.

You forgot the Eagles - at least until Siriani starts making enough boneheaded calls to lose games.

I would keep him. They will find a way to play them both.

Looking at the AFC West there are 3 good teams and 1 terrible team (Raiders) The Chargers (good defense) are currently 7-3 and won 4 in a row. They finish: Home-Ravens (Monday night), away-Falcons, away-Chiefs, Home-Bucs and Home-Broncos. I think they go 3-2 with losses to Ravens (home) and away to the Chiefs. That makes them 12-5 and in the playoffs. Looking at the Broncos, I see them 9-8 and out of the playoffs. A healthy Herbert makes them dangerous. The Broncos are no pushover with a good rookie QB (Nix). They came close to beating the lucky Chiefs.

That's what I'm thinking. Use them like the Saints used Kamara and Hunt. The Chiefs used Pacheco as running and pass receiving back. I think Hunt will likely be used as a runner only. And, God forbid, Pacheco could reinjure his leg.

Thanks for your input, I knew I could count on you.

Just remember, you get what you pay for. 😉

They're still likely to have to go to Arrowhead and win in the playoffs.
I’m hoping the tougher AFC West will catch-up to the Chiefs and give the Bills homefield advantage. The Bills have 3 games left against teams .500 or better and two of those are the Rams and 49ers (the other is Detroit) The Chiefs have four games against teams over .500 including the Steelers, Chargers, Broncos and Houston. On paper, the Bills’ schedule is much easier.
