indeed, one I have successfully ignored lately...On a different thread there's a Duke alum being berated for getting a big contract and not being more "team friendly."

Need to start Royce ONeale for defensive purposes.Welcome to Phoenix Tyus!
Before his injuries, GH was a pristine ball player.Gordon Hayward is retiring.
Hayward retires from NBA after 'incredible ride'
Gordon Hayward has retired from the NBA, calling his 14 seasons an "incredible ride" and adding he "can't wait for what's next!"www.espn.com
I know it's been 14 years, but I still think that halfcourt shot might go in.
If it were Payton Pritchard, we'd have had more reason to be concerned.Pretty sure we debated this to death, but that shot was never going in. It's about a 3% shot for NBA players in game and that includes end of quarter situations where the shooters are largely undefended, vice end of game potentially championship altering situations. Hayward's shot hit the backboard and only clanked off the outside of the rim on its way down by sheer force of the shot.
He wasn't even close.
Every time I watch that replay, I'm surprised at how the missed FT rebound goes directly to Hayward... almost as if Zoubs did that on purpose. If anyone else got the rebound, I don't think the last-second heave would have been as close. Whew...Gordon Hayward is retiring.

Yeah. It still stresses me out watching it!Every time I watch that replay, I'm surprised at how the missed FT rebound goes directly to Hayward... almost as if Zoubs did that on purpose. If anyone else got the rebound, I don't think the last-second heave would have been as close. Whew...
Had it fallen, the Laettner shot would have been relegated. I like still seeing UK go down, too!Yeah. It still stresses me out watching it!
I was there. The last 2-3 minutes were almost Kafkaesque. Jon's three disallowed because of a Butler foul inside; foul against Kyle ruled a turnover (shades of San Antone); out-of-bounds to Butler in the corner; open shot by Heyward bothered by Zoubek and barely missing; stupid call to "miss" FT from K to Zoubs; rebound (as noted) directly to Heyward; uncalled moving screen by Matt Howard that leveled Singler; scary shot from mid-court by Heyward.Yeah. It still stresses me out watching it!
I recall that Coach K said that if the game goes to OT, Duke won't be in good shape. If I recall correctly, both Zoubs and Lance had 4 fouls. And with 3+ seconds left (assuming Zoubs makes the FT) Butler (even without a timeout) still had 5 seconds to get everyone set up for the final shot... and teams practice these scenarios. I just rewatched the final minute of the Villanova/unc game. Villanova had 4+ seconds (of course, they had a timeout, but still...) and got a great shot just outside the 3 point line to win the NC. I keep thinking that if Zoubs makes the FT, Butler makes a 3, game goes to OT... I don't know how I would have survivedI was there. The last 2-3 minutes were almost Kafkaesque. What's next, I thought? This will never end. Then I saw the Duke team running and jumping on the court. Hey, it's over -- we won!
When K yelled "Miss it," Chris Collins yelled, "No, make it!" K's daughter Jamie reportedly told him later, "Dad, that doesn't make any sense."I recall that Coach K said that if the game goes to OT, Duke won't be in good shape. Because of what Coach K said... being ahead by 3 gives Butler at least 5 seconds to get everyone set for the final play... which gives them a good shot at tying the game... after which Coach K didn't like his chances in OT with Zoubs and Lance with 4 fouls each. (Yes, I bought in to that narrative ). So, either win the game, or go to OT where winning becomes very questionable to him. His call, I guess...When K yelled "Miss it," Chris Collins yelled, "No, make it!" K's daughter Jamie reportedly told him later, "Dad, that doesn't make any sense."
A lot of people question K's decision. I mean, we're ahead by two with a couple of seconds left. What's wrong with being ahead by three?
None of these thoughts, however, occurred to me in the arena. YMMV.
It sure looks to me like Hayward’s shot just BARELY missed. Had it gone in it would have won the national championship for Butler on what was essentially their homecourt. We came very close to seeing a celebration that would have been quite unlike any that has ever occurred in an NCAA basketball championship game.Pretty sure we debated this to death, but that shot was never going in. I'll be pleasantly surprised/impressed if DJ makes his NBA debut this year. No doubt he's worked hard since he left Durham, here's hoping that it pays off!
If he is on a 2-way, then the team absolutely expects him to play some. This isn't a "stash him and see what develops" situation either as DJ has been out of college for several years now. Teams know what they are getting from him.I'll be pleasantly surprised/impressed if DJ makes his NBA debut this year. No doubt he's worked hard since he left Durham, here's hoping that it pays off!
The extension precludes Markkanen from being traded for six months -- which pushes him past Feb. 6 deadline and means he isn't eligible to be moved until next offseason. Markkanen became eligible for the renegotiation and extension on Tuesday. The Jazz had listened on trade scenarios over recent months for Markkanen, but never were presented an offer that caused them to seriously consider moving an All-Star forward in his prime of his career at 27 years old, sources said.
