NBA 2024 Offseason Discussion Thread

No, you’re not the only one; I like them, too, though not nearly on the same level as the Celtics.

As for the Magic, I just really like Paolo Banchero’s game. He has elite talent. I’m especially impressed by how well he sees the floor and passes; that’s my favorite part of his game.

like Wendell Carter okay, but that’s entirely due to the fact that he went to Duke. I don’t enjoy watching him play. He’s no Paolo. And Carter’s mom kind of killed it for me. 🤷‍♂️
so, Carter's mom doesn't have it goin' on?

So the Bulls going all in on tanking for Cooper Flag? Alex Caruso gone. DeMar DeRozan gone. Zach LaVine can be had for a ham sandwich. Same for Nikola Vučević

I and sticking with the NBA awarding the Wizards with the #1 pick. Flagg in the nations capital make too much sense. The 3 teams vying for him will probably be Brooklyn, Chicago and Washington.

Even if the year was 1997 and we barely knew how to use Photoshop, this would still be painfully bad graphic work by the staff of the San Antonio Spurs. I mean, if you turned this in for a high school freshman grade graphic design class you would get a D, at best.

You’re REALLY going to sour on the Spurs after they acquire Russell Westbrook and James Harden to go along with Harrison Barnes and Chris Paul!

I think this is actually a stealth tank job by the Spurs. CP3 and Harrison Barnes are both washed and had the worst seasons of their careers last year. Wemby is good enough to keep them in the play-in by himself but I forsee a lot of phantom Wemby DNPs to keep them in the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes. If the Spurs strike gold again and pair Cooper with Wemby, it's over for everyone else for at least 10 years.

The Spurs also have the Hawks next 3 1st rd picks all unprotected so those should be top 5ish. I am normally anti tank but the next 2 drafts will be very good in that top 10ish range. Th Spurs need to pick up 3-4 guys in that span/range and it could set them up for a dynasty type run.

Poppovich might coach til he's 100 at this rate.

Here’s hoping that Cooper Flagg is as good as advertised — for Duke’s sake, for my sake, for his sake, and for the sake of whichever NBA team drafts him.

A very happy Jayson Tatum enjoying the Celtics championship

Celtics' Jayson Tatum says title ends 'debate' on elite status

"There's still a lot of things I guess they can debate. But now I've done something that they can't debate: I've won a championship. Having that under my belt, like obviously it's still conversations to be had or whatever people want to say, but they always got to refer to me as an NBA champion."..

Tatum said the championship parade last month was "the best two hours of my life" and that it was hard to explain how "insane" the atmosphere and energy were in the city that day as Boston reveled in passing its forever rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, to become the NBA leader with 18 championships.

Tyus Jones to the Suns. Jones and Allen back together again.
Tyus is only making a little more than $3 mil in this deal. It will be his lowest salary since his rookie deal ended in 2018. He made $29 mil over the past two seasons.

The sad thing is that this is not a reflection of poor play. He set career highs in every statistical category and had an outrageous 7-to-1 ATO ratio. This was a function of the market for free agents drying up very quickly.

Next summer, when he is a free agent again, teams are going to have money to spend as the new TV deals all go into effect starting with the 2025-26 season. Hopefully he can find a more lucrative situation.

That said, I think part of what we learned this past season in Washington is that Tyus really is probably not a starting PG for a playoff kinda team. His best NBA role is likely as the top backcourt sub for a good team. That is what he is going to get to do on the Suns (Booker and Beal will be the starters). One interesting wrinkle is that if Tyus' elite ball-control and expertise at moving the ball around (something Phoenix really lacked last year) is desired late in games, he could find himself playing in the closing lineup with Grayson moving to the bench and Booker/Beal each slipping down a spot on the wing.

He's made over sixty million in his career. I think this was a smart move to set himself up for a good deal (as you say) next year. I see nothing sad about it.

It's also the reflect of the crumbling middle class in the NBA. Rosters are filled will players at the top and bottom but fewer in the middle. It's also the only way second apron teams can move forward.
