MBB: The 2025 Transfer Portal

New ACC players to the portal:

Tae Davis, Notre Dame
Chandler Jackson, Florida State (video)
Elijah Moore, Syracuse

It’s hard to express just how grateful I am that Hubert wasn’t smart enough to bring Omier to Chapel Hill this season.

Don't think he was smart enough to go after Omier or Maliq Brown. Both those guys would have really helped the Heels.

I doubt Maliq Brown was on UNC's radar. It's like the NBA Draft, only the opposite: look for fit, not the best player available. Duke looked for fit, and UNC looked at third party portal rankings.

Norchad Omier should have been on UNC's radar. He was the closest player in the portal to Armando Bacot, but Hubert Davis really tried to move away from that, seeking out the 7-footers, but with no NIL money. It was hilarious.

Well with the new football coach, Hubert won't have many NIL $ to spend. The $100K he did have just want to Bubba.

Another ACC name plus one of general interest:

BJ Omot, California
Joson Sanon, Arizona State (video)

Sanon, a 6-5 shooting guard who was RSCI #23 in last year's high school recruiting class, decommitted from Arizona last summer when Caleb Love decided to return, and switched to Bobby Hurley and Arizona State. He and RSCI #8 Jayden Quaintance had the potential to be a dynamic freshman duo, but things didn't go very well for the team this season. I guess they were like Rutgers West?

Coach Hurley is, for now, supposed to return next season, the last in his contract.

Do we have a starting center? I think we need one of those as well
Ngbonga is your starting center Boozer will play the 4, Maliq will be the first big off the bench. If Ament comes he plays the 3. I'm not worried who the starting center is. I'm more concerned with having shooters on the team and someone to run point. If Evans is back he plays the 2. Proctor is gone he won't be back.

And, Tyrese.

99 lock to go in the NBA draft.

If Tyrese continues to shoot 3 point shots like he did yesterday for the rest of the tournament, he is going to get a lot of attention from NBA scouts. I can't imagine he'll be back.
For what it’s worth, Jon was certainly talking about Tyrese in the presser yesterday like someone who was planning on going pro, even going so far as saying something akin to, “If I’m an NBA team I’m looking at him.”

Now, a LOT can change on that front. We were 99% sure Jeremy was gone after his junior year too, although that’s a very different situation. But in the new era, it’s very likely Duke can offer Tyrese an NIL package for a year that would be better than an early second round pick. If he doesn’t get sufficient guarantees that he’s a first rounder and/or he thinks he can jump 10ish spots by playing like he is now for a full season, you never know.
