MBB: Duke 87, unc 70 Post-game thread

Jon however, had a very good Sophomore year, and did not see his stats fall off a cliff. His scoring went down less than a point, but improved in pretty much everything else. As I recall, K asked Jon to take more a 6th man role, in part to accommodate the arrival of Kyle Singler, not because of poor performance.
I thought Jon going to the bench was because K thought he'd handle it better than Gerald Henderson.

Did Scheyer hire Rachel Baker in his first year as HC? And was probably the first college basketball program to hire a GM?
Duke hired Rachel Baker. I dunno where the idea came from. K, Nina, Jon or the Fuqua advisors? (Some group at Duke is thinking years ahead.)

tuned in to PTI last night to see Wilbon and Korny talk about Duke, and both said the game was so lopsided they turned it off....
Yeah, there were many sports talk discussions about how the game was a nowhere near the most compelling storyline of the sports weekend, which is a rarity.

It's almost like it was a lot more of a fun event for the DBR community than for the rest of the country.

No regerts!

Jon was a better shooter than Foster. I think he was the leading scorer in his state, may be wrong. He had one game that he scored an amazing number of points in a short time in one of his high school games. Jon telling Caleb to be patient is a great coaching point and I think Caleb is being a good teammate.

21 points in 75 seconds to be exact. Came in a 52-point outing against Proviso West, one of the stronger suburban programs back then.

I'm a former Nike exec in Beaverton, and my wife still works there. She parks in the Coach K building, and when I visited her yesterday, I decided to park there, too. I commented the moment with a photo, which seemed fitting after the beatdown of UNC this weekend.

Browsing IC I think the Cheats' idea of a GM is different than Rachel Baker's role at Duke.

They want an NBA type GM who will take control of the roster - identify and acquire HS and portal talent, leaving just the coaching to Hubert. I can't see this working in college since there's no President of Operations or anything. Somebody has to be in charge.

Jon probably is/was a better shooter, but Caleb shot better from 3 as a Fr. than Jon did (40 vs. 36.5%). Jon shot and scored more than Caleb did, but this type of regression is not just missing a shot or 2 more than normal.

I think he was Mr. Basketball in the State of Illinois and didn't he score like 21 straight points in a game once? (whoops - just saw Luvdahops post)
