MBB: Duke 106, Stanford 70 - Postgame thread

Everybody who played for Duke scored. Neal Begovich scored his first points of the year! Ed.- sorry, didn't see that Cam Sheffield played but didn't score...
Caleb Foster scored 10!!! He looked aggressive, and other than 1 rather poor finish in traffic looked like a decent player. I think Jon consciously did not play him in the normal substitution pattern so that he could play with no pressure. CF has really struggled during game-pressure situations this year, and allowing him to play free 'n easy was important.
All around dominant win for Duke.
I feel bad for Jaylen. He struggled hard, but at least he scored a bucket. In fact, most of his shots were bad shots.
Actually I think Foster didn’t play because he’s out of the rotation.

I mentioned earlier that I would sub Gillis in for a guard. A few posters came at me but that’s exactly what happened in this game. One even said Kon couldn’t play guard.

Gillis was second off the bench tonight. I know in the second half he subbed in for James.

I think we will mostly see the starters in March plus Brown and Gillis. Evans will prob see some spot minutes.

That's a good question and I made mention above about needing 3 guards in case of foul trouble. Evans is a wing in my opinion and not a pure guard. One that is a really good ball handler. Today Caleb looked to fill that bill, but it was against a pretty bad team. I'm hoping Caleb uses this game to build his confidence.

GoDuke!
I don't know that Stanford is a "pretty bad team". They have an ACC record in the upper half of the league. But Caleb's play was with essentially no pressure as the game was totally decided by then.

Caleb scored 10 points in 6 minutes today. That's some instant offense. And Isaiah is 4-15 from 3 over his last 7 games.

I've made the point on here before that Isaiah is the kind of player who can win you games but also shoot you out of games. That kind of highly-variable performance is not what this team needs in a one-and-out NCAAT. It would be much better to have steady and decent.
And Caleb hasn’t been highly variable?

In the tight tourney games, Jon could go with the iron-7 and slide Kon up to give Tyrese and Sion quick breathers. It wouldn't surprise me.

But in my mind, best case scenario still would be a productive 10mpg from Foster giving Sion and Tyrese each a 5 min rest.

I have no doubt in tight tourney games, Jon will try to ride Cooper, Kon, Tyrese, Sion for 35mpg each. We are simply a better team when all four are on the floor.
It was Gillis giving them a break tonight.

Most fun watching Duke play a basketball game in the season. Despite listening to CA OB and Dickie V. Talking about Hubie Brown and Chuck Daley as Vic Bubas’s assistant was a great Dickie V anecdote. And mentioned his Krug grandchildren all playing on the Duke tennis teams.
Proctor is on a roll. He was my MOTM. Khaman is stringing together really good games. Sion has been a very excellent point guard. Cooper’s passing was off the charts. Kon was making the floor burn plays.
Glad the bench got minutes. Begovich scoring a dunk was a high five moment. Harris had a nice drive and finish. Mason hit a 3 as did Maliq. I agree these 2 will be first off the bench. Evans is getting better at defense and floor game. He will eventually start knocking down 3’s again. Caleb had a confidence boost and hope he can carry it forward.
Wallop the Wahoos Monday night!

The fact that Caleb Foster scored 10 points in the final five minutes (his only minutes) after we were up 30 is all the proof I need that we will not lose another game this year. I might have felt better if we’d only been up 20, but then I realize that he probably wouldn’t have played.

My one little nit from today is their 13 offensive rebounds. Felt like even more. Teams are successfully crashing the boards on us.

So, the front page mentions some sort of interaction between coaches at the end of the first half. Perhaps this was already covered in the in-game chat, but can anyone offer details?

Did I see a ego inch
I was there. Indeed Jaylen received a very warm reception during player intros.
I would be very disappointed if he was received otherwise .

otherwise, I wasn’t able to watch the game but caught the highlights. Proctor is becoming the dominant player he needs to be for this team. Elite performance tonight.
