MBB: Duke 106, Stanford 70 - Postgame thread

Very fun win.

Proctor continues to amaze. He has taken his game to a whole new level.

Sion James is the unsung hero of this team.

Loved us hunting Maluach today in the lob game.

Maybe sitting for the entire game made Foster a little angry. That's the most aggressive he's been hunting points all season.

1. Once Duke got that double digit lead in the 1st half, you knew this was over. And it was. Raynaud showed why he is a player. And the Cardinal did hit well from 3 (though a few came late in garbage time). But Blakes (kind of sadly) had a terrible game (hope the crowd gave him a nice ovation when he was introduced). Stanford doesn't have the horses to keep up with Duke, their defense is meh, and it was a blowout.

2. Proctor had a great game. Duke could really use a reliable 3rd scorer - or heck, reliable 2nd scorer ("reliable" meaning that the scorer is always there in the top 3 scorers). He set the tone early. Maluach played well in the battle of big men, more than holding his own against Raynaud - and had some nasty alley oops. Truly the whole starting 5 played great. They didn't need Kneuppel's scoring this game, so he came with hustle. His save out of bounds by throwing it off the opponent was beautiful.

3. I kind of buried Foster after last game in a post. I didn't think I was so derogatory, but I definitely wasn't optimistic. If he (or someone who knows him) read that, perhaps it gave him some fire. In the short stint he was in at the end of the game, he played like an all-conference guy. I hope he uses that and continues to produce. Duke could really use another ball handler and guard driver. We know he can play well in big games. One data point does not make a trend, but it could be the start.

4. As badly as I do feel for Blakes (thanks again for hitting that GW against the Heels), I loved the dunk that Begovich had. I was hoping he wouldn't pull up as Duke could have run out the clock. But as hard as he must be playing in practice, it must have felt great to put the cherry on top of this blowout.

5. Flagg seemed to be an assist machine at one point. I counted 3 in just a couple of minutes. The man can do it all. And I was saying to the GF that he was being kind of quiet, joking that he's taking a backseat today, then he makes that steal, passes off and then flies in for the breakaway dunk. Saying that he's such a special player isn't special enough.

Great win in dominate fashion! Proctor playing his best ever, Man Man was great, Cooper was Cooper, Sion is a really solid player! Loved the way Kon was tough and picking his shots! I was really glad to see Caleb get in there and ended up with 10 pts. In about 4 minutes. That should really get his confidence going. We need all our players playing at the high level we showed today! Love this team! Best all around game this season!

Maybe best offensive performance of the year. Something to build on.

Three awesome things:
  1. Tyrese is playing himself into a first rounder.
  2. Foster balled well today. Would love to see him get going.
  3. Getting another Sion needs to be in CJS' roster formula every year. Tough, steady, veteran guard. Just love his game.
