MBB: Duke 100, Army 58 Post Game Thread

Duke beats the spread, again. Once Duke broke free from brick-itis the offense was really efficient. We didn't stop shooting 3s, we just got more active in the lane and more passing. Low turnover affair for Duke tonight, which i like. All 4 of the Uncles played tonight, though Sheffield missed 2 3s. Brown continues to be a menace on defense while Gillis and James fill their roles very well. Nice to see Evans finally get some buckets.
Spencer draining 3s!!!
The defense was stifling, though it should have been for such a short opponent.

I know Army may not very good, but hanging 100 is always an accomplishment, as is winning by 40+. And it certainly won’t hurt the all-important efficiency metrics.

A random observation: Kon may be the only player in the country who follows his shot like they teach you when you’re 10. It’s so clear he comes from a basketball family.

I hope we can solve Coop’s cramping issues before the Kentucky game. It’s obvious Jon wants him on the floor as much as possible. And I’m afraid in the more competitive games, we will need him.

Good victory. I would like to see more playmaking from Proctor Foster and James. There has to be a sports medicine solution to Cooper’s cramping. Just accurate shooting was a little off tonight. They all need to practice free throws. Defense was consistent. Key to keep winning

Somehow we finished shooting 45% from 3 after a really cold start.

It's hard to take too much away from this game as small and outmatched as Army was. Good to see all the starters again in double figures.

Looking forward to seeing this team play against some real competition.

Here's something Duke tried for Banchero's cramping issues:

Following the season opener and during Duke's five game homestead, Banchero underwent a sweat test and the results prompted the sports medicine team to come up with a plan that includes drinking a special "BOA Oxygenated Fluid" in the hopes of minimizing or eliminate the cramping problem.

BOA Nutrition has since filed for bankruptcy:

That would also be a bit awkward to publicize for Coop given his deal with Gatorade. I guess they could always put whatever they give him in a Gatorade-branded bottle. But hopefully they figure out something. Back in my day on really hot days on the tennis courts, some top players would drink Pedialyte. Yes, seriously....

Its a perfect opportunity for Gatorade to develop a new (or enhanced) product.

Flagg said after the Maine game that Jon wanted to play him heavy minutes to get him used to it. I assume this game was the same. As much as fans like to see us go 10-deep in blowouts, I think the coaches want to use every game as a learning opportunity and the top players need to learn how to play tired at the end of games.

Just listened to Jon’s postgame press conference. He was not happy about Cooper’s cramps. He said Coop is doing everything right but “we’ve got to help him”. Said he didn’t care if they had to stay up all night, but they needed to fix that now.

most efficiency metrics temper impact past a certain point. KP starts to downplay when you are significantly up, especially in a game by which you were supposed to win big anyway. IIRC, NET has a hard cap at some point. It used to be stupidly low (like 10 points) but I think it's somewhat higher now>

In any case, probably little difference in a 20 point vs 40 point win....but you are technically correct, it won't *hurt* the efficiency metrics :) :)

All we can ask in these ones is that duke gets it done...and they did.

Just have Coop drink more before and during games. A lot more. Down 64 ounces before the game. 4 ounces every time he sits. Cameron is hot, and he sweats.
