FB: Duke 27, #22 SMU 28 (OT)

Game day!
I have a weird good feeling about this game, despite the 11.5 point spread. We have been a great home team for last 2 1/2 seasons. Our defense has been so consistent all year and I think will come up with big plays, TOs/TFLs to keep us in it. Our O has been stale, too predictable and painful to watch at times. But maybe they can have their best game of the year, sustain some drives and keep SMU offense off the field. No way their defensive personnel is as good as Noles. And somehow our offense and running game are stronger in 4th q.
I think this game is much more winnable than on road vs Miami. We’ve gotten win over Heels, FSU, so now time to get a top 25 win.
Let’s go Duke!! I’ll be there

I do think they will incorporate 3or4 runs for our QB. Try out our other QBs also. Do the trick play. Throw the kitchen sink at them. My hope is we get an early lead for our defense. We are due a good to great offensive outing. I like the Devils and the under. I think our defense realizes what is needed from them and will step up even more. The run game may cut loose also. FSU front d-line was stout so our o- line may explode for a big rushing day. 20-14 Duke for the win and a #19 ranking for next week.

My wife and I are driving to Durham from Atlanta for the game. Very excited to catch a home game. We have seen most GT home games vs Duke for nearly 40 years and a Wally Wade home game about every other year since 1979. Oh, and a precious few bowl games live.

I hope we pop a few surprises on offense! (Perhaps the shoestring play? Anyone remember that? Anyone?)

Looking forward to a great game and of course a victory.

BTW, not only do I hope not to see political stuff at the game, I prefer not to see them on this forum. Quite enough of that everywhere else!

Go Devils!

Game Day! What it is going to take to win:

1. Win the Turnover Margin stat.
2. Defense must stop the run and make Jennings throw the ball.
3. Offense must move the chains which starts with 1st down effectiveness.
4. Improved Special Teams play.
5. Play clean. No unforced penalties.

Prediction: Duke 21, SMU 17.

Honestly, So Pumped for This Game. There’s
A Chance our O Doesn’t Show of Course, but
Really Hope We Can Finally Have a Few QB
Runs to Keep SMU Honest. Also Really Hope
I Can Watch Live Given the Late Kick. This
Should be a Good One!

"killerleft" is an alternate name for The Shoestring Play. I was there for it and remember it well! Our defense played well near the goal line to preserve the win over the cheaters.

Perhaps a surprise 50-yard TD dash by Maalik might be remembered as "Run, Murphy, Run!" 55 years or so in the future.

UVA is terrible. Carolina is running all over them in the first half. UVA’s offense taking a play from our offense, and only got 82 total yards in the entire first half!

Correction, UVA got sacked again on the last play of the half. 77 total yards in the first half. Except for a couple nice runs, Colandrea only completed 5 of 14 passes. UVA had a grand total of 4 yards running for the HALF!!

SMU defense and Duke defense very comparable in effectiveness.

SMU offense >> Duke offense so far this year, much of this related to zero QB running threat, and lack of depth at RB, TE and WR. Sadly I have no expectation that Brewer will teach QB1 how to run this week, and I also have no expectation to see QB2/3 see any snaps.
Unless we have a turnover parade like the FSU game, this may be ugly.

Ugh. Posted on the wrong thread. Can’t figure out how to delete the posts in the new system.
