Dukies on the 2025 PGA and LPGA Tours

Tee times in Phoenix, MST:

Max 8:59
Alex 1:28
Kevin 1:28

Yep, Alex and Kevin playing together.

Alex in 9th place of the AON Swing 5, about 30 points behind 5th place. Kevin would need a standalone 3rd-place finish this weekend to have a chance of playing Riviera.

Re Max, I know he's one of ours, but I'd call this out if it were any other golfer. How does he withdraw after a bad round on Saturday citing a hand injury, and be ready to compete on Thursday? Because he's not resting, to be ready these guys have to be swinging a club virtually every day. It's a bad look...if he plays well he was BSing on Saturday, if he plays poorly then he took a spot that should have gone to an alternate. Shades of Rodney Dangerfield.

BTW, the WM Open is the most highly-attended golf tournament in the world, pulling in over 700,000 spectators. Wow. "The Greatest Show on Grass" has the loudest hole in golf: #16, check out the picture if you don't know:

A friend of mine who is mid-late 40s does a guys trip there every year from the east coast - he has two kids, one in college. I think on Friday they get to the 16th before dawn and spend the day being drunk and stupid. He is a Duke fan so I will tell him to cheer extra loud for our guys.

Great day for Alex. One slip-up, but it was a perfect drive and I expected him to go for it. Hard to expect a perfect round anyway, I was hoping for another -4 and got better and he's currently standalone 2nd. Of course he was 1st for a while, I don't believe he's ever been at the top of the leaderboard this far into a tournament. Should be an exciting weekend.

Kevin with a good day and easily within the cut at -2.

The pace of play must be dreadful. It's a smallish 132-player field, and they couldn't finish yesterday. So here are today's tee times MST finally.

Kevin 10:39 (off the back)
Max 10:17 (off the back)
Alex 11:12

Professional golfers need to realize that they are entertainers, pure and simple. If a golfer takes 6 hours and shoots 62 while playing by himself, he has accomplished nothing. A 62 is not a cure for cancer, it is not a technological breakthrough, it is not a philosophical revelation. Without viewers who are entertained, it means nothing. Hurry up already before the audience for your entertainment shrinks to nothing and your craft is therefore worthless.

Alex getting some good air time playing in the final group today- hope he enjoys it so much he can do it again tomorrow!

Max is on his 3rd hole at The Genesis Invitational after two pars. Seems like scoring is more difficult as only one player is at -2 so far and many more players are over par than under.
